How to pull newest user out Empty How to pull newest user out

Post by Al Bundy Fri Jan 23 2009, 00:40

I would like to add a scrolling marquee to the top of our forum. This I can do quite easily by modifying the overall_header template. I would like to announce and welcome our newest member in this scrolling message. What code would I need to insert into my HTML code to have the members actual username show up in the message.

Would it be like this?
<marquee direction="left" behavior="scroll" scrollAmount="5" height="30" onMouseover="this.scrollAmount=1" onMouseout="this.scrollAmount=1"><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"><center><b>Welcome to my forum {NEWEST_USER}. Enjoy the site.</b></center></font></marquee>
The tag I used here does not seem to work, is there some other tag to use, or is there something else I can use here.

Thanks

Code:
<marquee direction="left" behavior="scroll" scrollAmount="5" height="30" onMouseover="this.scrollAmount=1" onMouseout="this.scrollAmount=1"><font face="Comic Sans MS" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"><center><b>Welcome to my forum {FORUMLASTUSER}. Enjoy the site.</b></center></font></marquee>
See if using { FORUMLASTUSER} works out as you want it to be?

Hi, I'm sorry, but a MOD did answer that for you. Wink If the code is not working for you, please be patient as maybe some one will be able to assist you further with this problem, with more experience in coding. Smile

Well I copied and pasted the code above and this is what I see scrolling.

Welcome to my forum . Enjoy the site.

I am trying to put this in the overall_header_new template, and unless I am wrong the code above is html.

And sorry for the remarks about a MOD answering, I did not have the info on the right side earlier.

Have I somehow turned something off? Do I have the wrong version of board? I am at a total loss here.

OK, that works, but it puts it in a place thats not highly visible. Is it possible to adjust where on the page it goes?

Is there any particular reason it won't work in the overall header???

Also, is there a code for the current logged in user.

example

Welcome back {USER}, check out the news section

Thanks for your help and patience
