Question Regarding Forum Versions

Firstly i hope i have put the correct topic title.(Question)

I just wanted to know more about the various forums versions,which is beter than the other.
Right now my forum uses phpBB2 version and i was thinking of changing it to phpBB3.

But apparently there are some limitations with phpBB3,if somebody could elaborate on that i would greatly appreciate it.

Also while changing from phpBB2 to phpBB3 what are the things that i need to keep in mind.
Would the changes affect various customizations I have done to my forum like personal widgets on Portal,theme etc.?

I am not quite sure myself about the difference of versions except the obvious ones(Display)

To answer your question:

phpBB3 is not as customizable as phpBB2 for the sole reason that there is not template editing. PhpBB2 is arguably also more reliable because it has been around in forumotion for a long while and there are hardly any bugs. In the change, there is no telling what you would loose so if you undergo it, I suggest saving all the personal widgets and your css code (if you have one) to a word doc.

There is only ONE difference between all the versions on forumotion, all that is changed is the STYLE (layout, themes etc). The backend (the forum features, etc) - ALL remains EXACTLY the same accross all themes (and if your interested, its a heavily modded PHPBB2 forum, which the forumotion dev's have allowed to work accross various themes) - You wont lose any data, except your CSS, styles, theme, etc all will change.
