Activation email problem Empty Activation email problem

Post by iceangel 6/3/2009, 10:01

Hi
I wondered if anyone can help me please... I have had quite a few members comment that they can't recall the website url by the time they register and then get the activation email back.

1) Can I see what email is actually auto sent to members registering when their registration is activated?

2) Can I alter it in anyway (to include the url of my forum)?

3) Does it include the url of forums...I'm told it doesn't... but I can't find it to know for sure....

It seems a common problem - people signing up and never returning to forums and I'm wondering if the automatic activation email might contribute to the problem?

..and yes I want to continue with the member registration being oked by admin first ...as it really does help with spam I think...

any one know any answers?

1) You can set a testing account in your forum to see the email yourself.
2) I don't think so.
3) Nope it doesn't include the forum url.

For me an automatic activation is great because members can connect right after they register. There are other ways to control spam like set up a warning system etc.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering my questions Smile

In reality I think lots of people sign up and wonder off to do something else - perhaps they might get the activation email sometime later...

This might account for why I have so many registered members that have never come back.

How can we go about having this email changed so the forum url is on the activation email?

"Hello *********,

Your account on "****************Forum" has now been activated, you may login using the username and password you have received in a previous email.

--
**********"

The first email comes from member@forumotion.com and then the activation from board@forumotion.com

Over here in New Zealand some of our spam filters that our ISP's use seem to be throwing these emails into junk email folders

Is there any way we can use our own email address on activation emails to get a better rate of return to the forum OR at the very least include the forum url on the activation email so people remember where they signed up to.

Thanks in advance

I'm having the same problem. Half of the people who have tried to join the forum have not received an activation email ... and no, it's not in their spam folders, so where is it? Has it actually been sent at all? It's a shame that there is no way to tell ... and no way to re-send the email.

I too am having the same problem. I have my forum set to email acceptance from the administrator, but I receive no emails from new registrations to activate them.

Are you sure you've set it to send you emails about new users?
(you as in admin)

I have it set correctly and also double checked the spelling. I tried creating 2 new accounts which the users got the emails but the admin did not get an activation request.

That's not the same problem, as I do not have mine set for admin authorisation.
