Solved Flash Banner et al..

Post by LeeLee March 10th 2009, 8:14 pm

Normally when I make banners I like to use 'already existing' banners/skin graphics as a template to match themes, colours, etc. Where can I access the standard forum skin set graphics? Here's the skin we're currently using: Clicky

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.. Mr. Green

No one has an answer? Ugh lol..

I guess what I'm essentially trying to do is replace what is already existing there - when I upload my banner, it doesn't 'overwrite' the default banner.. it simply just layers it on top of it.. Can this current banner be removed, or is it a permanent part of the skin? Rolling Eyes

O.k. that one's solved - thanks!

Now I'm trying to add a .swf banner by external hosting and it's not recognizing the file type.. Any ideas? Is it a setting I need to change? If so, where the heck do I find it? lol... Very Happy

I'm already hosting the .swf myself.. it's not hosting I'm asking about - when I try to load the banner the forum saying that the file isn't supported.. This is what I'm seeing:

Flash Banner et al.. Screenie

..this is what I have in the target window, so it's live..:

Have you read this, see if you can upload your flash file to the site mentioned in the link. Use that code it will generate to add to the forum main logo. See if that works out, if not let me know. We will try working something out.

Also i have a doubt, your flash file, does it contain only banner & rest of the portion was cropped?

Is it possible the forum version I am using doesn't support .swf files? Par exemple, when I try to upload the .swf using the Servimg.com built-in hosting, I get this:

Flash Banner et al.. Screenie2

It does state, 'Allowed formats : bmp, jpg, png, gif, tif'.. no mention of .swf.. :/

Try hosting the image in Photobucket or Tinypic, Both are run by the same company and should work, Also update your browser as it appears it doesn't have the relevant flash components to allow you to display the image as part of a website.

http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

If your still having issues updating, Go to the following link which tests what version of flash you have and let me know what it tells you,

Installed latest Flash ver. just in case.. Test link says the following:

Flash Banner et al.. 11

So you don't think it's the forum engine I'm using, not supporting .swfs?

Correct 100% nothing to do with the engine being used Razz

Now that your version is upto scratch, The second thing was that you have to allow the script to run, As part of a security loop version 9 stops the auto run of .swf files in HTML

However using code we can get this to work,

1. Navigate to:

Admin\General\Configuration

2. In the "Site Description" add the following code and press "Save"

Code:
<object><param name=allowScriptAccess value=always><embed type=application/x-shockwave-flash src=http://tinyurl.com/bkpg37 width=100% allowScriptAccess=always></embed></object>

Also remember to remove any previous banner that was in the images\advanced area....

That should do it Razz

O.k. awesome - so the script works and the banner shows, but.. (of course there's a but lol...).. now I'm getting a big white border around the banner image:

Flash Banner et al.. Blah

Thought it was the width parameter - nope lol.. Any ideas? Should I add the exact image size as a parameter in the code?

Apologies for being a html noob hehe... Very Happy
