[left]ok, i want my forums to actually show my categories, not just list the forums...is there a way to do this?

could you elaborate more.
categories will only appear if you put forums in it.

everythings9.forumotion.com that is my site, i have the forums listed under the category, Everything Cowon S9, but the category itself doesnt show

Try this,

Display>> Structure and hierarchy>> Split categories on index>> Medium.
