Double emails sent from forums for new members applying

This has been happening a lot in the last week. When a new member signs up I get 2 emails now of each alert. New user account and new user registration. At first I thought normal that i had multiple new users to activate but looking at them they are all the same. Of course once I activate one the other one gives the error no user found. The accounts are activated fine with no other problems, just this double email being sent by the system. Each one that applies to be a member sends me the usual admin email to view profile and activate the account and the forums send me 2 emails each time now. Think this is more a technical question but put it here because it wouldn't let me in the tech thread.
