Filtering the content of advertisements
My suggestion is to create a filter on the content of advertisements according to the contents of the forum.
Sometimes we are surprised by pornographic advertisements (This is against the Forumotion CGU) and others who have the virus. This is bad for the image of the forum, often children involved and end up seeing this inappropriate advertisements.
This content filter already exists in Google Adsense, just change the pattern of advertising boards. This would benefit both sides, because with the content most relevant advertisements and content according to the forum users would click on more advertisements.

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
This is a good idea. There are some scam adds on my site, telling you that you need to download something. My sites members are mostly teen/preteen, but there are some kids of my site who could accidentally click those adds. There are also some kids who find some things more inappropriate xP

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
I have never seen a pornographic advertisement on Forumotion forums, ever. If someone has a virus making this happen to them creating a filter on the content of advertisements is not going to do any good. Forumotion does not allow pornographic material to be displayed on there forums and the ads shown are not considered pornographic by the servers involved. If your definition of "pornographic" is equivalent to a PG rated movie then you are a minority who thinks that way and perhaps should consider paying to have your ads removed.
My forum doesn't get ads for its registered members so this is never a problem for any of its members.

I agree with this completely. I've been seeing sexual innuendos all over the place from video game and CP game advertisements and I am tired of it. I have young people on my forum and they should not have to see this content.
If this proposal isn't "doable," then something needs to be done about it, in my opinion.

These ads that you feel are "sexual innuendos" that forumotion is apparently putting on your forum is no more a sexual innuendo than commercials you see on television. They are not by today's standards considered pornographic by any stretch of the imagination. The "Young People" you are trying to protect are going to see such material on TV or other places on the internet. Your argument is invalid because the ads you speak of are not considered by the vast majority as R rated or inappropriate for children. Like I mentioned to topic starter, if your definition of "pornographic" is equivalent to a PG rated movie then you are a minority who thinks that way and perhaps should consider paying to have your ads removed.
Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
There is one other thing I would like to add to my comments concerning ads on forumotion. I want to point out that I most certainly do not think they are all nice ads, or do I think they are all trustworthy and respectful ads. I have seen ads on forumotion that mislead you and blatantly lie. For example, I've seen ads that say "You are missing a plugin to view this video, click here to download the missing plugin". That is a lie. I am not missing a plugin and that is not a real video that needs a special plugin to view it. When you click the download link it takes you to something completely different and unrelated to a video or a plugin, it takes you to the page that the ad is trying to sell you something on. Another example, I've seen other ads on forumotion that say "Your plugin has crashed to view this content" click here to fix the issue". That is another lie, no plugin crashed and none is missing.
These misleading ads that are blatantly lying should not be allowed to be on a forumotion forum, this is not good advertisement for forumotion and cheapens there image. If I were head of the forumotion forums I would insist these kind of ads not be displayed on my forums. It is not the kind of image we want to project.

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
I never implied that the ads were pornographic, nor did I imply that forumotion was the one putting them there. Regardless of what social standards are, I can still have the desire and respect for different parental methods to change the standards on my forum. It's my forum, not society's. I could care less what children see elsewhere--I still think it would be useful to have control over what they see when I am the owner of that site.
My argument is not invalid, because--it isn't an argument at all, it's an opinion on a feature that I would consider useful--my opinion has NOTHING to do with social standards or general ratings of advertisements, games, etc. It has only to do with the fact that I'd find the function useful for my forum, my rules, and my standards alone. Frankly, I don't even think feature is possible, as it has to do with google ads, not FM, but that doesn't mean I can't find the feature useful, as I said above.
That's just my opinion.
Also, I've already had the ads removed--but I don't always have money to remove them.

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
Technically it isn't your forum, its owned by forumotion, you have no rights to it, so therefore you don't get to say what kind of ads are put on it. And yes forumotion has everything to do with the ads on your forum. Yes Google puts them there but with forumotion giving them the right to do so. They can reject ads that they feel are not appropriate. You are in a sense indeed implying the ads are pornographic when you state they are "sexual innuendos". A sexual innuendo can easily be interpreted as pornographic.
Calling your opinion an argument is a figure of speech and has everything to do with social standards or general ratings of advertisements, because forumotion and google sets the standards of what kind of ads will be seen, and by whom, so consequently your argument/opinion is invalid because its irrelevant.

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
Forumotion ads are NEVER pornographic.
Maybe you have an external widget in your forum that is generating that intrusive ads you are talking about.
As you said, pornographic content is not allowed anyway here, so is not possible that the own forum is being generating that adverts.

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
Forumotions main target audience is the younger generation and quite frankly I dislike having ads such as Dating sites and other inappropriate stuff. I also quite often see ads that lie and in some cases even cause viruses. The option to pay for them isn't the best option. I would like to say that if we could control the ads or just have one permanent ad or an ad that relates to the site.
For example your forum is about Football then you have an ads that is like football.
FM targets the younger generation, you see it on here, people are usually teenagers or early to mid twenties, therefore you'd think they would allow a few methods of selecting ads that are appropriate for the site.

The ads that are displayed on Forumotion forums are from Google, and Forumotion has no control on it, if you see any dating, mature or pornographic ad, then please PM it with the screenshot to our pro administrator(Leeloo).

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
The thing is that is VERY time consuming as usually I get about 4 or 5 a day as the ads change quite often.
If I was to do that it would take an incredible amount of time.

Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
Forumotion may not monitor the ads Google displays but they can certainly reject an ad and inform Google that they don't want a particular ad displayed on there forums and Google must and will comply. To suggest Forumotion does not have full control over there forums would be incorrect, because forumotion has the power to remove all Google ads from there servers if they choose to do so.Jophy wrote:The ads that are displayed on Forumotion forums are from Google, and Forumotion has no control on it.
Re: Filtering the content of advertisements
According to the admins, the ads displayed are also based on your search on the search engines, cookies etc. being saved on your pc/browser.
