Template Help Empty Template Help

Post by CharleX May 20th 2009, 3:46 am

I wanted to use a custom homepage but I had an issue. I tried searching for templates and all of them I had to download. And they had an image folder, CSS file, html document. How do i set it up? Or am I doing the whole thing wrong? Sad

You need to edit the files little bit.

1) Host your images and edit their links in the HTML and CSS files.
2) Put whole HTML code into a new HTML page of your forum.
3) Paste the whole CSS between the <style> </style> tags in <head> tags.

Hope this helps.

Well, I tried like 3 already and it shows plain text and some html code at the bottom. Not sure if I'm doing the layout in html source box right. Could you give me a more clear layout.

Do you want to make an HTML page which will also be known as your homepage, too? You don't have to have a template, you can do the whole HTML page yourself. I think this is how you do the links (like turn a full link in to just plain text what you click on, people use this for their navigation links when they make an homepage):

[url=*LINK HERE]*NAME OF LINK HERE[/url*] Just remove the aterisk (*) on the last part of that code and it should work. I don't know if this is what you do in the HTML page, though. Try it out just editing some of the code out with your link, and what you want it to be called for short. If it works, and you're starting to get the hang of it then just say and I will gladly give you the code to make the background of your page black, or any other colour you want it to be.

Thanks Torres. I knew that. Now to think of it, I've seen the most awesome template ever from a forumotion forum.
I think it's this:
http://foruminion.forumotion.com/

I need a template that's somewhat similar to that. And i'd be happy if you actually tested the thing out and gave me the whole CSS/HTML code that you used so I can get the idea of how to use them. THanks. Help appreciated.

Okey, I found a good template site for you.

http://www.freewebtemplates.com/templates/xhtml-css

1) Download one that you like.
2) Unzip the folder.
3) Create new HTML page on your forum.
4) Copy the whole HTML code there. (Hit the "A/A" button on the top-right corner before you add the code)
5) In the HTML code, find out <head> tag. Put <style></style> tags inside <head> tags. Now copy whole CSS code inside the <style> tags.
5) Upload the images.
6) Edit the link urls in the CSS codes for the images.
7) Click save.

To get the HTML and CSS source code. Open the files with notepad.

Hope this helps.
