It's a widget you can add/remove.

ACP=>Modules Tab=>Portal & Widgets=>Forum widgets management

~Look for the widget named : recent topics

If you don't have it:

Addition/deletion of personal widgets=>Look for it=>Add the widget=>

~Now drag it to your forum's index

=>Save

That's heirachy option. When you see the index page, the last topic that someone has posted in will be shown as a quick link to the topic in the respective forum. The widget Master Marc is describing shows the most recent topics that have received new posts and may be in the same forum.

When you set recent topic option to yes in Hierarchy, it shows like this...



And when you put a recent topic widget from Modules, it looks like 'Latest topics' widget on the right of this forum.
