How do you make a forum visible on the index but not accessible?

What the title says ^^
So users can see the forums "trash" but they can't get into it. Is this possible?

Yeah. But why would you want to do that with the trash?

We have 432 posts in the trash & there's no reason not to show it on the index. Don't post if you havn't got a solution.

I do have a solution because I've done it myself. I've even got forums that can't been seen on the index at all unless you have permission to see it. I'm just wondering why you'd want the trash to appear on the index page.

Anyway,

Admin Panel --> General --> Categories and Forums.
Change the permissions for the forum you want changed so that people can or can't see it or can or can't access it.
