URL Censoring Empty URL Censoring

Post by Doctor Inferno October 24th 2008, 3:00 pm

Ok, we already have the Word and username censoring. I would like to suggests a URL censoring.

It could prevent unwanted advertisements and spam linking to other sites. Because I really hate it when people advertise Viagra on my forum! (Especially when I not impotent Razz )

For example a user types www.spamURL.com it will be censored to what ever the admin chooses like www.~if you see this post report it~.com

One more thing, this is possible with phpbb.

Okay, for example this user keeps registering and posting www.spamlink.com

Through the admin panel we could add that URL to censor it.

ok.... fair enough ... but usually when a spammer comes along with his "stiff" propositions, and gets his link censored (manually by a mod or automatically by this feature.... ) he won't come back with the same link to the same site.

well at least thats what I have experianced. I haven't seen a spammer who'd keep spamming the same adress after its been censored.
And anyway most of the time (based on knowledge on this support forum) a spammer comes posts his links in 5 -10 threads and dissappears ...

by the time a mod or admin find his posts , add them to the list... the spammer is gone ,never to return.
OR ... i'm thinking wrong ... and all you want to do is instead of editing the 10 threads he's made ... you want to automatically change all 10 threads by pasting a censor in the AP??

can't the normal wordcensor censor urls???
**** I have been writing this post for over 15 minutes ... after I type a question asking how you want to solve a problem ... i land up answering it myself.
lol ...

1. just make it where you have to approve of the post before it is posted
2. You look at the link when it is posted and hope to god no one had already looked at it lol

URL Censoring Empty Re: URL Censoring

This sounds like a great idea as I have an advertising section where you need atleast 20 posts to join the Advertsing usergroup which allows you to post in the advertsing section.

However as you can imagine some (not many) ignore this and post there forum links where ever they can (even to the point of spamming).

So this idea would be brilliant if you could have it so the URL is censored in all the sections that you want it banned from.

BTW this is for the original poster, I had a similar problem with a forum admin pluggin there advert non-stop on mine and hurling abuse saying stuff like "video games are for geeks, join my wrestling forum and be a man" with a link to his forum, so what I did is add the first part of the link to censored words (include the http:// and also do a www. version too) as this works perfect for me.

i vote yes, i noticed this was used on another forum i get onto, and they basically filter anything to do with another site thats related to the same type of thing. its a way to keep your members at your site and not loose them to other sites.

i vote yes as well...

though i first thought when i read the tpic title...
that you wanted an url censored... if somewhat bad words occure inside it...
so that any site that includes e.g. "porn" in their name... gets censored automatically...
and not that you actually add the whole url in your censor list...

though i dont know if its already possible...

I don't think it's necessary.

If you want to censor www.spamlink.com you can just censor "spamlink" by "****" and that will work.

I vote no.
