Calender help

hey there, about the calender option, I'd like to be able to mark birthdays on it as well as other special ocassions but everytime i try and enter something into it it becomes a post, how do i alter it so that it stays in the calender.

also is it poosible to have the calender showing all the time as a small box with dates on it?

If someone puts in thier birthday in profile thier birthday will automatically show up.
