well , i know a way of reading my member pm . But , i think it is illegal to read my members pm's , so is it illegal to view my suspicious member pm's?

How can you read your member's PMs? What is your method?

I would say depending on the method, 99% of the time it is not moral (but not necessarily illegal) as they are Private Messages.

i would read this both person's pm , but not all members . only suspicious member . If they do plan something , they get ban before they work out their nasty or evil plans .

I see your issue and that may seem logical, however, I would wait until a staff member can confirm.

You cannot read your members PM's unless you go into their account by means of changing their password.

Reading a members PM is impossible unless ur loged in as the member.

And so if your logged in as the member makes it possible (thats what he's refering to )

well i just need to know , is it against the TOS to read members pm ? ( Suspicious members ) . I wont just read any members pm . Only Weird user names , and weird actions they are taking .

you can read their pms by changinh their passwords and logging in as them then you can go to their pms

After reading the ToS, I can say that it doesn't mention anything about that.

It sounds like you sit around and obsess over potential plots against your authority. I hope forumotion gets wind of this and shuts your forum down so you can spend the extra free time this creates for you in the more constructive activity of being ashamed of yourself. And FYI...you're one of those nasty admins you speak of.

PM=Private Message. That means a message that is only to be shared between the person sending and the one receiving it. You should leave it to your members to report abuse via PM to you then take action if necessary.

Garmar. although I do support your comments, members have made the choice to sign up, so they should abide by the forum's rules.

i say , i will look at weird names , like OLIVER or adsadasd like that . and if they are acting weird recently , i will check their pm .

I agree that members should follow the rules set out by forumotion TOS and the founder. What I don't agree with is snooping based on weird usernames or just plain old paranoia. If a member doesn't follow the rules of the board the staff should take the appropriate action based on the system put into place. I have no idea what relevance the above quote has to this situation. Are these members plotting against the Federal Govt.? Usually, a court order is issued when the Fed has probable cause to pry into private communications, and for better reasons than, I just want to know what this guy is up to.

Try to remember: from just my quick glance, he appears to be running some kind of gaming forum, not compiling state secrets.

Thats not exactly the method used.

Anyway, I have had suspicious users with non-coincidental email addresses and random posts. I usually just send them a confirmation email and see if they actually own that email address.
