Seperating catagories?

Last night I added a background image to my forum, but this morning discovered a few members who are using laptops cant see it, maybe because of the smaller screens? So, I was thinking, at the moment, all my catagories are attached to one another, so my boards are like one long block. Is there a way to detach the catagories from each other, so the background is slightly visible between each catagory as well as at the sides of the forum?

I think you should change your forum hierarchy.
Go to Admin CP > Display > Structure & Hierarchy > Choose 'Medium' > Save
