But I am not very knowledgable yet, and could really use some help with it. I really need to know the basics. What works best, etc. I hope someone can help.

Well lets start with the basics. Obviously your music player is going to be something like Playlist.com or some other flash player. Whoever your provider is, they may provide you with an embed code. Get that code ready to paste on your forum (like pasting in Notepad for the time being so you don't lose it).

Next, you have several areas of the site you can place that in. Here are popular areas of an FM board that admins have placed such fun things:

Announcements
A random Forum/Portal widget
An HTML page

Pick one and I'll work with you from there. Wink

OK! I have the code and it is ready to go.

I gave it a try as a widget, and it was disasterous! Nothing fit and it was all slammed against the side of the forum.

I did it as an announcement, at the top, and that was cool, but I'd rather have it at the bottom.

No idea how to do it the other way, although I would like to try.

Also, whenever you click onto a new topic, it shuts off. Is there any way to fix that, so that it keeps playing? Just wondering.

I went to playlist.com for the player. Is there a better place to go?

Sorry for all the questions!

I feel like I almost have it. Does anyone knwo of a player that members can turn off if they do not want music? The one from playlist.com clicks on automatically, and I have members who want nothing to do with having music. I cannot seem to get the HTML page with the player working, although I can add it to the widgets or run it throught the announcements.

I'd also like to make it a bit small, if that is even possible.

You can turn off autostart by editing the player code and/or
you could use a pop-up player as I've explained *in this topic
Let me see your player code. Use the "post code" option I really wanna add a music player to my forum. Page_white_code

Here is my code. Right now, I have it as an announcement at the top of the forum, but it restarts every time you go to a different topic.

well you have a few options.. you can have a pop out player that you members can click on and the songs will play without interruption wile browsing through the forum.
or you can always make it invisible player to have in the background.. or you can re-size the player to place in the widget.

if you want your song list to be random and auto play. you will have to go and change the setting from your site and get the new code. so i can adjust the code for how you want it but i need to know that you have the code for the settings you like first..

here are a few examples of a player i have..
you can have anyone of these options the same way.

invisible
http://evolymrobynb.forumotion.net/nhl-schedules-f1/invisible-music-player-t7.htm#7

here is one re-sized to fit a widget(christmas)
http://evolymrobynb.forumotion.net/nhl-schedules-f1/x-ma1player-1-widget-t11.htm

And a pop up player.. (code made by our very own rono Smile
http://evolymrobynb.forumotion.net/nhl-schedules-f1/pop-up-x-mas-player-t14.htm#15

Info added

ok here is a code that will fit in a widget. like i said you will have to set your options for if you want the player to play auto or random.. also please build your list then come back with the code and i can make it to what ever option you want. but i will not go through all this for one song... lol you know what i mean. so put together a good list, come back and i\'ll be happy to adjust the code how you like.

Code:
<center><div style=\"text-align: center; margin-left: auto; visibility:visible; margin-right: auto; width:175px;\"><object width=\"175\" height=\"150\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf\"></param> <param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"never\"></param> <param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\"></param> <param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_red_noautostart.xml&mywidth=175&myheight=270&playlist_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Floadplaylist.php%3Fplaylist%3D72914606%26t%3D1260465172&wid=os\"></param> <embed style=\"width:175px; visibility:visible; height:150px;\" allowScriptAccess=\"never\" src=\"http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf\" flashvars=\"config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_red_noautostart.xml&mywidth=275&myheight=150&playlist_url=http://www.indimusic.us/loadplaylist.php?playlist=72914606&t=1260465172&wid=os\" width=\"175\" height=\"150\" name=\"mp3player\" wmode=\"transparent\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" border=\"0\"/> </object></a> </div></center>

Kirk! WaZaAp?! Cool

Ok rob0213...
you can place this pop-up link wherever Html is enabled
Code:
<a href="http://www.profileplaylist.net/" onclick="window.open('http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf?config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_red.xml&amp;mywidth=435&amp;myheight=150&amp;playlist_url=http://www.indimusic.us/loadplaylist.php?playlist=72914606&t=1260465172&amp;wid=os', 'popup1','width=350px,height=350,height=200,left=150,top=250'); return false"><font face="times new roman" size="2">Pop-up Music Player</font></a>
You'll be able browse without interrupting the music.
I've turned autoplay back on since it's a pop-up.

I really wanna add a music player to my forum. Break_gray5

Here is a version with a player icon (if you're interested)
Code:
<table><tr><td><img src="http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k57/RoNo1/player02.png" style="float: left"><a href="http://www.profileplaylist.net/" onclick="window.open('http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf?config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_red.xml&amp;mywidth=435&amp;myheight=150&amp;playlist_url=http://www.indimusic.us/loadplaylist.php?playlist=72914606&t=1260465172&amp;wid=os', 'popup1','width=350px,height=350,height=200,left=150,top=250'); return false"><font face="times new roman" size="2">Pop-up Music Player</font></a></td></tr></table>
It'll look like this pop-up link I really wanna add a music player to my forum. Blogtalkradio01

test the code in this online editor

I really wanna add a music player to my forum. Break_gray5

(F.Y.I.) If you want to post players on forums that don't
allow Html... use bbcode: [flash(width, height)] [/flash]
Code:
[flash(350,350)]http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf?config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_red_noautostart.xml&playlist_url=http://www.indimusic.us/loadplaylist.php?playlist=72914606&t=1260465172&amp;wid=os[/flash]

Solved Re: I really wanna add a music player to my forum.

Post by rob0213 December 14th 2009, 6:35 pm

Okay. got my player loaded with tunes for the members. I am now ready to place it on the site. Right now, it is saved as an announcement and sits at the top of the site under my logo.

Now, here is what i want, as i tried to use some of the above stuff with no luck (i am sure it is me).

I would like to add a button in the nav menu on top label music player. then when member click it, it pops up as a pop up player so that it will contnue to play regardless of where they navigate.

Thanks to some help from others, i know how to make a new button, but not how to link the player to it. I dont even know if this is possible, but if someone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I don't knwo if i need to post the new code here, or if someone can walk me through it, baby steps wise.

I am not familiar with using HTML, so I dont know how to use that.

Help! lol!

Try this in your homepage message (remove your current player)
Admin Panel/Display/Homepage/Generalities/Message Content
Code:
<center><table style="background-color:black;padding:3px;border:gray 2px solid"><tr><td><img src="
http://i18.servimg.com/u/f18/14/48/38/17/no_new12.jpg" style="float: left"></td><td><a href="http://www.profileplaylist.net/" onclick="window.open('http://www.profileplaylist.net/mc/mp3player_new.swf?config=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.indimusic.us%2Fext%2Fpc%2Fconfig_red.xml&playlist_url=http://www.indimusic.us/loadplaylist.php?playlist=72914606&t=1260465172&amp;wid=os', 'popup1','width=350px,height=350,height=200,left=150,top=250'); return false"><font face="times new roman" size="2" color="red">Pop-up Music Player</font></a></td></tr></table></center>
