Have our forums been restored without our knowledge?
Has anyone noticed strange 'admin' goings-on in their forum?
When I set my forum up 1 year ago, I created a 4-in-1 forum section and later (couple of months ago) I changed the URLs of the 4 forums linking to it, but the links were faulty, so I changed them back. I distinctly remember doing this coz it took a while to sort out and I know I saved it coz I re-checked the links.
However, I clicked on them today and found that they had reverted back to older links which were faulty. I don't know how long it's been like that, but not too long I suspect.
Also, I have had a topic go missing - my own topic - which I know for a fact that I haven't deleted. I went to update it today and it's gone!
No one but me has forum permission to delete posts - not even my mods - and I've gone through the forum basket with a fine tooth comb and it's not there. I checked the posts of some members that had replied in that topic and their post replies are not to be found either.
These are the only things I've noticed, so far.
Btw my admin p/w is secure and is unknown to anyone, but me, so I know hacking is definitely not involved here.
Does anyone know if Forumotion have recently restored/rolled back our forums?
Cheers.

No I haven't had that problem. In the security area it'll list deleted posts and updates. There's an Admin and Moderation tabs, check both those tabs to see if something you're missing is listed in that area and it'll tell you who did it.
I hope this help, if not I'm sure someone will help you.
Good luck.

If there is a server issue where by your forum details become corrupt,
Forumotion will use a back up, which is taken every 24hrs and apply it to your forum.
This allows users to continue using your forum with a service however you will lose ALL information between the point of restore and the last back up.
This will usually be done instantly when an issue occurs to minimize long term issues.
Issues regarding servers will not affect everyone and will only affect a limited number of users unless it is a recognised wider scale issue. You would normally be notified at that stage.
Hope this has answered your question
Regards
Craig

Sorry for going off topic here but for some reason i can not pm you?
anyway you asked a couple months back in another person thread on how to remove the option for members to be hidden. The persons topic was asking the same thing. you just replied saying you would like to know to.
well i did figure it out. but you have to remove the whole feature form the template. so if your using phpbb2 or punnbb and still want to know how to do it just start another thread on it. or you can post here.
actually just let me go over and see where it's at again.. and I'll put it in this thread
info added
here you go.
in your profile template click on the first one in the list(user form/register/modifier)
your going to scroll down a lil bit.. um almot half way. you will see the thing for news letter.
right after that you will see.
just take all that out,hit save then scroll back down and hit the green + icon to publish.
and that's it. since there is no option in the admin panel to not allow members to do this.
your basically just taking the whole feature out of the equation.. your forum no longer offers that option/feature... hehe.
so that's it if you have any problems let me know.
now back you your topic. i just remembered you said you wanted that too but never seen you reply back to that thread and i cant pm you.. why is that? I'm a mod i should be able to. what if i had to move a thread of yours to a different board or something.i wouldn't be able to notify you of with the new link where it is.
so we'll get that fixed...

yes, i have had this happen several times.. it usually occurs right around the time all the photobucket adds pop up all over site.. i figured it was forumotion resetting/restoring the forums. Anything that i change ie:fonts, colors ect, gets reset back to its original display.. which reminds me. my chat box is white on white.. white text on a white background. still trying to figure out how that one happened. Re: Have our forums been restored without our knowledge?
Thanks, Craig. I did wonder if that happened in this case. I did not receive any notification though from Forumotion, so am completely unaware of when and if this took place. It appears that only a few things on my forum were affected, thankfully.Placehold wrote:If there is a server issue where by your forum details become corrupt, Forumotion will use a back up, which is taken every 24hrs and apply it to your forum.
Hi Kirk, sorry for any confusion... I disabled receiving PMs after that incident when I received a very nasty porn PM/spam. However, it was my understanding that Mods can still PM a member, even when the facility is disabled. Do you think there might be a problem here that the techs need to know about?Kirk wrote:i just remembered you said you wanted that too but never seen you reply back to that thread and i cant pm you.. why is that? Btw thanks ever so much for taking the time to post the code, much appreciated.
