Mod being able to ban

Post by Godzone on February 7th 2010, 3:13 am

Un-Edited post wrote:We should have a choice in whether a person with mod powers in a section can ban or not.
A person with mod rights on one section can ban anyone on the whole board. This creates abusive members.

Please fix this. Dx
Edit
-Poll added
-Okay, I seriously was not thinking when I first made the topic. Let me explain it all again.

Say perhaps I want to create a GFX group. I want people in that group to be able to moderate a certain forum. If I allow this, these members whom I have given some moderation permissions will be able to ban users(VIA User Profile > Ban).

I know this will cause problems with abuse. I'd really love it if we could have an option to allow or disallow one certain group/user to be able to ban.

Summed up: I want to be able to control who can ban and who can't.

Please and thank you. (:

Yes!

I suggested this on the spanish Forumotion forum, and people liked it very much!

What GodZone wants to suggest is that the Admin could decide wich Moderators can bann and wich ones not, because, actually, If we allow moderators to bann, ALL moderators will can bann...

The idea is to change that, and that the Admin could decide wich Moderators could have powers to bann and wich not...

As I said a moment ago, I like so much this suggestion, but, add a poll to allow users to vote for it.

Godzone, you have 24 hours left for a poll to be added or I will have to lock this suggestion topic. Wink

Sorry about that.
The poll is added and I cleared up the main idea.

Yes, I think this is necessary.
Follow-through:
Okay so let's say you had a global mod group on the forum, which could edit topics, lock threads, and ban members, etc. Then, let's say you wanted to make a graphics team group with the same capabilities, but have them NOT able to ban. I think this is what needs to be added; a functionality where you can select specific aspects of what you would call "moderating."

I'll start continue here:
The group administration has the "Is Moderator" option in the group permissions section. I think that is really vague, because what if you just want the graphics team group to be able to lock topics, move posts, etc, but NOT allow them to ban? Sure, you can select "Disallow moderators to ban members," but then that would make it so that even your global moderators couldn't ban. Or what if we didn't want them to be able to edit profiles? The thing is, if we select "Is Moderator," we are giving them the similar functionalities of a global mod, even if there is no intent to do so.

What should be added/re-phrased:
-More variety of options for moderators' permissions instead of just an "Is Moderator" option.

I agree!
I wish for the same; as I'd like super mods to ban and general ones not to.
