Hide sections till a member posts

Hey.

I've got a question and i'm new here. I'm not sure what section or if this is the right one for my question but here goes.

I was thinking is there any way of changing the access to a section.

Example; A member must make a intro topic in order to unlock the download section or any other section.

Is there coding that might help with this. If so can you please outline the steps quite clearly and understandable so i can make this happen. It's alright if there isn't a action for this but can you maybe help me so it prevents a member to join and not post at all but gain access to download section, in other words leechers.

This is possible, and shouldnt be too much trouble....there's probably a faq somewhere that explains the 2 things u need to do, but here goes anyway...

First up, admin page, go to users/groups -> group administration

At the bottom of this page hit "create new group"

Now name it and give it a description - lets say "Posting members", put yourself as mod, and make it a "hidden group".

Now mark "group auto subscribe" to yes, and set posts to 1.

Done!

Now you have a group containing every member who has posted, but only you can do anything with it, as it is hidden from everyone but the admin account.

part 2.....

I'll assume you already have a section that you'd like only posting members to see...

go to general -> categories and forums, find the section you want to have as members only, click it, go to permissions tab, and tick the right boxes, specifically untick the "view the forum" for guests and members, then tick it again for your new group.

Voila!!!

Oh also, you'll now find that when you write a PM you have the option of sending it to yur new group - basically allowing you to PM all the posting members of your forum at once... handy!

Hmm... that might help, i'll try that to see if it works and get back to ya and let you know on this.

For the time being i used the Hide tags but if ya said above works better than that as a control point of view then i'll be sure to try it out.

Can't lock the topic till i give feedback on if it worked or not lol
