Hackers?

How is it possible for someone to create a new account in our forum and give themselves full admin rights / access & privileges? This has happened twice in the last week. I changed the account set up so it would have to be approved by an admin, but we are all still worried about this.

Also, how can I get their IP address if they have never posted? I wanted to ban by IP...

If they are online at the same time you, you can see it in statistics.

yeah, that wasn't the case. They created their accounts in the middle of the night. They didn't even show up in the members list either...

Well with the IP thing I think it's possible to view every IP the user has visited from.

What you talked about your first post isn't possible unless they know the password of another admin.

Could be someone from Forumotion. They only come to check if there is bugs. They don't do anything to the forum but make sure this software is running fine.

Mr Mario...How would any of us be able to know then if someone from Forumotion is "visiting" or that we have an intruder? Where is the security in that?

And how can we capture a visitors IP address?

You can only track a visitors IP address if he/she posts or if you are online at the same time, visit the admin panel.

Forumotion has a Super Admin Account which doesn't require to register. They can login to any forum they want to, to see what is going on. They only use this account to look for bugs on the forum. You don't have to worry if you see a Forumotion Super Admin Account. Think of it as a good thing.
