New Domain Name Redirect

I just wanted to be clear on this. If I buy a new domain name will my old forum URL redirect to the site (and to the new URL) or not?

For example. If my site is abc.darkbb.com. It becomes abc.com. If an old member who is not aware of the transfer goes to abc.darkbb.com ...will he be redirected to abc.com or not?

Just want to make sure because many of my members are inactive and won't know of the change.
