Backslashes missing Empty Backslashes missing

Post by Dr Jay June 22nd 2010, 8:04 pm

Hello.

I run a computer help website, and work on another one. Both are hosted on Forumotion.

The first is mine: http://www.helpmyos.com (phpBB3)
The second is Doctor Inferno's: http://www.geekpolice.net (phpBB2)

Seems to be a backslash problem, where the backslashes are not showing up, making file paths look smashed.

For example:

Normal: C:\windows\CDA

Current issue: C:windowsCDA

============

This completely affects the work that we do, and we have to workaround it by asking the user to download the script used for the tool, instead of just copying and pasting it from the forum post.

If there is any development error, it should be fixed immediately.

are you using code tags?

This is another thread i do not understand? scratch

Are you saying you can not type back slashes into scripts/codes on your forum.

or may be you mean when you are typing in the subject box when the post is being created.

be sure do not have the full edit mode on. that can effect things big time especially if you are writing scripts and codes.. be sure the full edit mode (wysiwiyg) is not pink and looks like this Backslashes missing Switchwysiwyg

We never have full edit mode on, and Code tags are not normally used.

The files are usually copied and pasted on to the post window, comprised from a list, that the tools we use, create.

So, when the file path is typed in to the post windows, and we hit send, the output is bunched up, instead of with the backslashes intact.

This is an on/off thing. Sometimes the backslashes will show up, sometimes they will be gone. It is now unpredictable when the board will decide not to mess up the backslashes.

I believe both Doctor Inferno and I have tried to get this resolved. As this is happening more with the actual "published post" not with a functionality on our boards.

As I stated above, the issue is more on standing with both phpBB2 and phpBB3.

Useing code tags sounds like the soulution.
the script/code that you are pasting to the post will show up exact if you useing code tags.

plus it looks a lot better then just some big script on the page like this too.

just an example.

<div class="conteneur_layout_IE"><div class="conteneur_container_IE"><div id="wrap"><a id="top" name="top" accesskey="t"></a><div id="page-header"><div class="headerbar"><div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span></span><div id="logo-desc"><a href="/forum.htm" id="logo"><img src="https://2img.net/i/fa/fdf_en3/logo.jpg" alt="The forum of the forums" /></a></div><span class="corners-bottom"><span></span></span></div></div><div class="navbar"><div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span>

and code tags

Code:

 <div class="conteneur_layout_IE"><div class="conteneur_container_IE"><div id="wrap"><a id="top" name="top" accesskey="t"></a><div id="page-header"><div class="headerbar"><div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span></span><div id="logo-desc"><a href="/forum.htm" id="logo"><img src="http://2img.net/i/fa/fdf_en3/logo.jpg" alt="The forum of the forums" /></a></div><span class="corners-bottom"><span></span></span></div></div><div class="navbar"><div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span>

As I was saying earlier, Code tags are not normally used.

However, when Code tags were used as a potential workaround, it failed.

When the posts would be edited, and the message be adjusted to implement the backslashes, that too failed.

Seems to only happen once in a while now.

Nevertheless, this is a continuous functionality problem.

well i dont know i dont have any problems using code tags.
if you don't want to use them thats on you. the only other solution i would have is to place the scripts in a note pad and upload them to a file host.

i honestly do not see a big dilemma here with this. if it dont happen all the time then good. when it dose happen just re-post again.

i mean i dont know what kind of answer you want. what ever you are saying is happening has never happened to me as long as i have had forumotion forums so i dont really understand it.

sorry.

May be someone else can help i suggested all that i could.
