If we have a free forum, but we purchase a domain name...can our first url ( ____.forumotion.com) be redirected to the one we purchase (www.___.com)

Well, duh. You just need for that website to not be in use by someone else and enough points. Try reading Admin -> Misc -> Pts. Management -> Domain Name for more.
