In progress Bots: How many guests does it take?

Post by Rianna Lauren October 7th 2010, 4:20 pm

Hi guys,

Straight to the question, while Google bots visit our forums no matter what its activities are, how many guest visits or popularity does it take for a specific bot to visit a forum? Is there a specific quantitative amount that makes the bots visit our forums?

To quote from the Tricks and Tips section:
The Yahoo! bot is the bot from Yahoo!. He is also just referencing your forum, however you need a few members on your forum to persude him to view your forum

Msn bot
This is the bot from Microsoft, msn, bing.com. You have to have HUGE popularity
for him to visit your forum.

Thank you. Smile

I've seen bots come on sites with no activity at all. As long as you have an active site they will come.

bots will automatically come through your site regardless. they come and go periodically and randomly.

But bots can only collect and gather information for what they have access to.
Meaning they can not gather any information of forums or post only members have permissions for.. they can only gather info from boards/forums that guest can view.

Oh, I see... But you know usually the chances of getting Yahoo or Bing bots are more rare then getting Google bots (who doesn't get them?). I'm an ex admin on a Teen Titans forum that I've known since late 2008, and it is in 2010 that I see a bing bot visiting for the first time. I went there almost everyday and I think I'd recognize if it went there before. While currently I'm an admin on a Batman forum and in three months I already get a visit from Bing bot. What influences the chances of them coming, and what makes my Batman forum getting the visit much sooner than the Titans forum? XP Thank you.

It's just random.
bots come and go all the time automatically. you may not be logged the same time they are on but they will randomly come through frequently.. and like mr mario has said.. things that have more traffic, hits or content will most likely be visited more often.

Other then that you can always try to contact bling, google or yahoo and ask them as well.. but it's just pretty much random and the majority of the time you will not even know they been there.

Oh, alrighty then. I was awfully curious about the need-one-year-for-forum-one-but-just-three-months-for-the-other thing. Thank you all for the information. :3
