Ad removal? Empty Ad removal?

Post by Pokemontrainergigi November 4th 2010, 1:55 am

I had one main question then one side question. Firstly I don't know how the Ad system works for Forumotion but is it at all possible that this ad could be removed:
http://content.yieldmanager.edgesuite.net/atoms/a5/a7/0c/5c/a5a70c5c88482168ee6d4f2f0e6689f0.gif

It absolutely kills my eyes every time I look at it and it appears quite often. :S I don't think the users should be blinded when they try to visit a website. Also I don't know again about this but quite often I have seen two "Download/Play" ads in which the only content is a Download and a Play button, which is actually the same image. I couldn't copy the image source because it was Flash or some other file type you can't copy the source for. Personally I find that way too misleading...I apologize for being picky about ads but I have been on other free hosting sites that put ads on your page and I have never seen ads that mislead like that (or ads that kill your eyes). All the other ads I've seen are fine. No issues there.

I am also wondering about how the ads are added. When my forum started there were no ads but suddenly as of today there are now ads. :S It just is strange is all, especially because there was no warning so I went looking in the Administrator Panel looking for something I could have accidentally hit to turn on the ads.

Thanks this would help greatly in some small way. =3

Ad's are put on automatically because Forumotion has a contract with Google. You will need to buy credits in Mics Tab and remove the ad's.

OMG Pokermontainergigi, that is a really nasty one, I hope it doesn't come to my forum affraid

You can change your settings so only guests see it, then members will be safe from it once they are logged in.

Very similar to my post in another section....

Not very attractive for your forum if your trying to gain new members... ok, you can pay to have them removed and that's fine, but there are some who can't afford to do so.
Bring back the plain text google ads please, at least they don't look as bad. Smile

Well Forumotion doesn't really have any control over Google's choice.

And how might I be able to change these settings? I looked in most of the Admin CP and could not find anything :S

I see now, I never saw your thread earlier, search failed on me so I posted this topic D:

What confuses me though is I have been on other website tat use Google Ads and I've noticed two things:
1) These types of ads do not appear
2) There is a bar at the bottom of the Ads that links to Google Ads :S

Thank you I suppose but I am still trying to figure out how to make it so only guests can see the ads. (sorry for the late-ish reply, I've been a bit busy recently) D:

I thought we could choose not to have "image ads".

I had an ad that said I had a message. I knew better than to click on it, but whose to say someone else will know?

As they make more money, we get crappier service. Pretty soon people will quit buying the hosting services and then they will just get revenue from the ads. Shit
