I saw this cool trick on a website and I was wondering if I can do the same to my forum.
The trick is that you cannot copy anything you read... it's like a picture...

See for yourself.

Can we do that??? Very Happy

They use javascript do disable right click. Go to Display > Templates > general > overall_header > and find there
Code:
<body>
Delete it and put this instead
Code:
<body oncontextmenu="return false;">

I'd be interested to know what you can't copy from that forum Very Happy Every image and every piece of text is available.

The sad news is you can't stop people copying your stuff. In a forum situation you can limit it, but you still can't stop it.

If it is a major problem you can do copyright searches and go to court if necessary.

True my friend..

On my Google searches (until now) I have found only ways to override those commands... but still nothing on how you can create them..

You could perhaps look at it a little differently? Let people copy your stuff, but get them to accredit you and link back. That way you might get a bit of decent advertising.

The problem is that most of them are banned users, trying to get back at me by copying my stuff and pasting them on other forums and taking the credit.

It's a tricky one Sad I would suggest speaking to these other board administrators to get them to remove your content. Most admins won't want the hassle, so will comply.

http://www.copyscape.com/ is quite helpful for finding the sites that are using them. At the end of the day, though, any measures you put in place won't stop someone copying.

You could maybe put the more sensitive bits of your forum in a members only area, that way the banned users won't be able to easily see these things.

Furthermore, watermarking images, is a good layer of hassle to protect against copying. Although, they can still copy, it's a hassle to remove the watermark, so will put people off.

That's good help!
Thank you coco moco. Very Happy
iJerick wrote:http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/noright3.htm < They use this script..
I tried it and it changed the forum totally!
Good try though.
The trick I'm looking for is to disable right click AND left click on the forum ONLY on the scripts.
If it disables all the buttons, nobody will be able to go anywhere in the forum...

Tricky huh..?? Very Happy

Code:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript1.1">
function disable(mousebutton)
{
var message = "";
function clickIE() {if (document.all) {(message);return false;}}
function clickNS(e) {if
(document.layers||(document.getElementById&&!document.all)) {
if (e.which==2||e.which==3||e.which==1) {(message);return false;}}}
if (document.layers)
{document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);document.onmousedown=clickNS;}
else{document.onmouseup=clickNS;document.onclick=clickIE;document.oncontextmenu=clickIE;}
return true;}
document.onmousedown = disable;
</SCRIPT>
ref -> link

This is more difficult then I thought...

I tried this code, didn't work correctly... but has showed me what I should look for.
The only thing needed here is disabling the left click.. JUST THAT!
But by disabling the left click, you cannot press the buttons of the forum (Portal, home,calendar etc.)..

To do that, I must make a totally new CSS that acknowledges this feature... this is where I don't really know what to do...

i though the "no left click" would give you issues.
not sure if you want to pursue that given as you have seen that once you have a fully functional code that prevents left and right clicks..no one will be able to interact with your forum.

even a separate CSS for guests only that prevents them from left or right clicking would also prevent your active members from logging in

Right clicking disabled made problems for my forum.
The members could'nt copy paste a picture unless the used Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V.

The trick is to disable the left click... If you can't mark the script, you can't copy it. Wink
