acp>general>category & forums>your list of categories/forums will appear, click on the category/forum(s) you want to add an image to>under "description", paste your image url.>save

Have you tried using a REALLY big topic icon? I have have never seen any images in the topic title or next to the topic title before... Wink

If you wanting the same image next to every topic, then you can add it in the templates. In the viewtopic_list template i think.
(i don't do templates really..)
