[Only-topic] Music - Your preferences, your discoveries.

Hello everyone.

As the brand new General Discussions is now opened, let's break the ice with a first topic about music.

Everyone is invited to talk about their favorite music genre, their favorite artists/groups, their discoveries.

Because of the wide variety of genres and styles, I don't put any poll.

And please, when you post, don't just say non constructive one-line post such as "X is cool!" or "Y is lame". Try to develop your messages!

I begin.

My music tastes are wide, but I don't like rap and r&b music and any style which works with sex.

There is a genre I affectionate particularly since 2 years. This genre is "epic metal", a variant of heavy metal. I discovered it when I began to listen song of the group Rhapsody (thanks, bro! ). Then I discovered Stratovarius, then Sonata Arctica. Last year, I discovered Edguy which I listen often. In this genre, the themes in the songs are mostly related to medieval heroic fantasy.

I do not listen to much music considering which I do not like too that I rather like to read books (Romance, comic strips...) or surfer on the Net and to discuss with friends via the messenger.

Oh I see .......... so that was the very first subject of G.D . Well music is allways very nice to listen at........... dependind what kind of music you like that is.

For myself, I'm still very close to my years actually. I mean to say that my kind of music is like Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, supertramp, Ottis readding (I'm sure about the way you write this last name) and so on. And actualy I can say that I'm very proud of my years and generation beacause of the type of music that we use to listen at. I'm just saying that because I think that what we have (in the way of artits) in are days, just a bunch of sheep or cats screaming on a wall to the moon, waiting to have a sliper or shoe throwned at. Yeah yeah allright ........ stop looking at me like that. :DD

I've discovered not long ago some ethiopian music. In the very beginning I thought to myself "oh bloody hell !! that done it, I'm going to have to cope with some kitchen music for hours" and you know what ? well nothing of all that !!

I can tell you that the music I heard at that moment had a fuming evil rythm, just like if a vaudoo spirit jumped into your boody'n starts shaking you all over the bloody place. That was wonderful. And if one day you're lucky to listen that kind of music, well just don't say no, or don't try to avoid it, cause you'll never know what you've just refused, ........ that if you like percussion.

Any form of metal (including some black metal; eg: Maryon manson - even if i hate the guy) and any other form of Rock.
To make a short story long, I'm alos helping a new group out with their lyrics. They are a Progressive Rock band called Sixstem (don't search, their first concert is in July)

Raaaaaaaaahhh !! I just can't stick with that guy, I couldn't stand near him without giving him a big wack in the face .......... It's like a guy who likes satanist muisuc (ex: Trivium). It DOES NOT mean he is a satanist too.

I didn't know Marilyn Manson's music was considered as Black Metal T__T

How else would you call it? Anyway, it's the official name for it 'cause it's anti-christ music

mmm... I don't know, I'll have to ask some friends first^^

but when you tell me "black metal", I'd rather think about groups like Cradle Of Filth, Aborym, Xasthur, Mayhem and stuff^^

Dam an educated man, good groups they are though. Yeah, they also fall into the category.

Lately, I have discovered many Power/Synphonic/Melodic/Progressive Metal groups (thanx bro )

my passion is Heavy Metal - the slower the harder the better
my all time FAVE band is - Type O Negative

the only album im missing from them is their 03 release 'Life is killing me'

A good group I discovered 5-6 mothns ago is Ayreon

Their music style is really beautiful, because they don't have any
They play flok, heavy metal, atmospheric metal, it all depends of the song ^^

Another special thing is that the only "true" member of this group is Arjen (read it Ayreon ^^) Anthony Lucassen, who plays many instruments (guitar and piano).
The other members change from an album to another, and most of them are well known artists :
- Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
- Michel Romeo + Russell Allen (Symphony X)
- James LaBrie (Dream Theater)
- Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
- ...

The group has produced 6 albums up to now, and each one of them is a great story, I strongly recommend their last one (The Human Equation)
