Good Idea?
Approve topics
Is there a way to make it to where the admin and mods of a forum have to approve new topics posted in certain boards?? Like on my Millsberry site, there is an auction board. I would like to be able to approve new topics to help prevent scammers. Is there a way to do this, if not, could you add it??
Re: Approve topics
No there is no way of doing this. But you did put it in the right place. But I do believe this has been suggested but I'm not sure.

Re: Approve topics
I vote yes, I used to mod on a website where certain group topics needed approval first before members were able to post randomly for numerous reason really ,Spam, personal arguments between group members, etc. I think It could be quite useful on some forums if this was an option to use selectively in such cases. But not implemented where every post needs approval.

No need.
If you are no free all the time, assign a moderator / moderators and that it

Re: Approve topics
Not for me I'm afraid, It would p*** me off to have to approve every topic before it was visible to members.
Re: Approve topics
I voted no, because i dont think this is needed at all. If you have good moderators on your forum, inappropriate topics will stay on the forum only for a few hours before moderator will remove them and ban the poster.

Re: Approve topics
Actually, despite all the no's, I'm voting yes. This would be handy on certain forums etc.
Re: Approve topics
actually this is a really useful mod for forums that need it.
especially for forums with download content... you want to moderate the download links and post content to check the legal stuff before it goes out in public.
so this could be useful for some parts of the forums.
But this will defiantly slow down forum work... by the time a mod or admin reads and moderates the content it takes a bit of time...
All in all yes... but once again this applies to only some forums that might need this stuff...

I totally agree with Nessa and Jalokim.
Actually i like the part " some forums might need it" and i am transforming this part in " all forums have it, if they want it"
It could be cool to have a tick (yes) or (no) if we would like to use it or not.
Though i have to say that if this would prevent "bad posting" from users or spam ext ext it would at the same time.. slow down the forum as it develops since aprroval won't come at exactly the same time but hours or days later.
That results in need of more active mods, and will be hard for a small forum.
But I vote yes, because as I always say : " Never say no to a plus "

Why not implement a suggestion that the majority or all forums would benefit from, not just some.Jalokim wrote:All in all yes... but once again this applies to only some forums that might need this stuff..

Re: Approve topics
well see, i am not saying to make all topics AUTOMACTICALLY need approval. i think some people misunderstood me. What i meant was to display the option in the admin panel when you create a new section, and it says "New topics must be approved" and then it shows the little yes and no bubbles. So it is an OPTION, NOT MANDATORY. Like i said, i would like this feature to be enabled, because it would help stop scammers, especially for what i need it for
Re: Approve topics
Um...I think they mean some forums within a board. They want an option to choose which forums within the board (hence the some) to actually use this option.Allianite wrote:Nessa wrote:I think It could be quite useful on some forums if this was an option...Base wrote:This would be handy on certain forums etc.Why not implement a suggestion that the majority or all forums would benefit from, not just some.Jalokim wrote:All in all yes... but once again this applies to only some forums that might need this stuff..
I'm fairly neutral on this topic, so I didn't bother voting.

Re: Approve topics
I love this Idea. I would like to add it to like a Tech section so that people aren't doing something that might mess someones computer or have a limit to how much they can post in a section.

Re: Approve topics
No. Those members implied "boards" - they just opted to use the word "forum" instead. Trust Me - I know them.babaganoosh wrote:Um...I think they mean some forums within a board. Re: Approve topics
yes i did mean the forum as a board in my comment... but after christos' comment ... I do agree...
this would prove useful on every board... and if there was an option to select which forums inside a board would use the system...
as mentioned earlier... this will come in handy with download sections , game sections... if a game needs verification before moving on.
also in some open discussions on serious topics... like religion or sexual preference... as a mod you'd like to see the content before letting it out to general public.
and there are more possibilities...

Re: Approve topics
Some people just do not understand how hectic auctions and contests can be on Millsberry fan sites!
