Ok so to get a personal domain name through the forum (for those who don’t understand, changing www.insearchoffootball.frbb.net to www.insearchoffootball.com ), where you need to buy points, is way to expensive.

i could be wrong, but don’t you need like 2000 points to get a domain name??

And in order to get points, you can buy 100 at a time, buy sending an SMS which costs me $4 each time (that’s Australian dollars)

So in order to get 2000 points, i would need to spend something like $80 (AUS) in ordr to buy a domain name for my forum

Now if we compare this to professional sites, that offer not only domain names, but also personal e-mails, etc, you can get sites that sell them as cheap as $5 each, with most places offering around the $10 - $15 mark

So don’t you think that having to spend $80 on here is just a joke?????

Would like to know what other’s think

Thanks

I agree with you..Its does seem a lil unrealistic for them to charge so much for it when you can get one available with more features for less money..Just my 2 cents!..lol

I agree, i could buy a lovely .co.uk domain for £2.99-£4.99 (UK money) for the period of 2 years.

Which is delightful, where as on here the charges are again far too much.

The same in regards to the gallery, you wish to pay to remove the advertisements, only thats not the case.

The Forum free , Create a free forum,Free forum directory, free forum support and Create blog free still remain, which is greatly misleading and a great disappointment. When they are in fact advertisements.

The © phpbb is there for obvious reasons and i don't mind that.

But, when one does question on certain things, the subject is rapidly avoided and left for others to reply rather than those that are in charge.

A most certain yes for me, but do you think they will drop the price?
Now lowering it, they might.

I'm really hoping they lower it, so far I haven't bought no points yet, I'm planning to soon, but I would like it to not be quite as expensive.

I have bought points before and now have ads disabled for members and guests and opened up a premium gallery for more storage and pictures. I think those factors of the points management are great.. The domain name thing seems a bit pricey and I think should be reduced just a smidge. But In general I'm pretty happy with the services provided. Wink

Caihlem wrote:Prices seem reasonable to me in relations to the space/effort needed per paying service

But to get a domain name ... you need 1600 point ... you can buy 100 points at a time at $4 each (Australian) ... so it will end up costing me $64 Australian ... compare that to websites that sell domain names which sell them for between $5 and $20 .. that’s very much over priced ... i am not sure who you buy the domains from, but either you are paying too much, or you are ripping us all of

Look at it this way, to then get rid of ads, for both members and guests its 200 points per month ($8 AUS) Which for a yr costs $96

And i am not even sure how much it costs for the gallery

So in all, that’s $160 ... Excluding the gallery

Now if I go to domain.com … I can get a domin name for 1 yr for $8.47

I can then go to smartyhost.com.au and buy hosting for 1 yr at $57.60 (which includes a whole lot of things, such as personal e-mail, etc)

Then I can get a professional to make me my own personal forum for around $150-$250 (a one off fee) with the forum catering to my taste, and including a lot more features than forumotion.com (obviously) and one that would look much better

Now I’m not trying to be smart, and you could say, well go do it, but all I’m trying to say, is that if you are going to charge such high amounts, then why would anyone want to spend all that much for what you are offering, when they can go spend less, and get a better deal.

So I think that if you were to reconsider your prices, everyone would be a winner, including your self, as I am sure many more people would remove ads, and buy a domain name, etc.

It's not up to the Administration of this forum but the techies to decide Wink

I'd just like to ask; why obviously have more features? They didn't appear overnight
Also, as you yourself wrote, a year domain is cheaper than a year free of ads, so no, I still dn't think it's too expensive

P.S: You're comparing Ads AND Domain to only Domain Rolling Eyes

No wrong!

So paying $64 for a domain is cheap compared to $9 ?????

And i was comparing Domain and Ads, to actually getting a professional to build you a forum, hence having no ads!

About the options, I was just making a point.

Well if its up to the techies to decide on this, I would like to hear what they have to say, as you were unable to justify why they charge a ludicrous amount for a domain name.

Oh and about how you wrote that Domain is cheaper than Ads, so therefore it’s a just amount …. Well Google Ads creates money for the forum owners, tech, etc … so obviously they charge a justified amount as to how much they would be making with the Ads on.

A domain is a service that they offer, and offering a one for $64 when you can get one for $9 is a joke …. Is it even ethical????

I to have payed for a domain, while I'm glad the feature exists I don't think the prices are fair, There are other domain sites where I can get the same domain but for less then half of the price set for forumotion, if it could be dropped to 1,250 points that would be great. Lower then that would be awesome!

  1. naturally if you propose a price drop the only parties objecting would be the sellers Smile
  2. The reason that this provider does not allow us to back up our forums is because if we could, he would have no leaverage to force us to pay his scandallas prices...
    lol!
  3. I dont really care, I am not planning on paying money for my forum any time soon so...

I think there should at least be done something about the difference between credit card payment and payment by phone. Users who haven't got a credit card have to pay nearly three times as much by phone as others have to pay with their credit card for the same amount of points!

I havent, I'm not thinking about buying points now. Wink
But I know about some people (in Belgium) who had to pay three times the "normal" price. (here in the Netherlands, there's theoretically a difference of €6,40, yet still too much in my opinion)

at the end of teh say, $64 for a domain name is a huge rip

all i wasn to say is this ... from a money and business point of view, isnt is to your advantage to drop the price, say to around 15??

Im quite sure you would then see most people buying a domain name, and profits would increase drastically

in all truth, im yet to see any forum from forumotion.com who has pain money to buy a domain

Does forumotion charge for the excess traffic and all those little catches that football's domain sellers charge?

I haven't looked into the purchasing from forumotion, but people who sell cheap domain always has hidden phrases and catches that some people are not aware of. They will start charging at an increasing rate like 1$ for every MB or GB of traffic/bandwidth/ what ever they are trying to make more money from. They also include pop-up advertisment / hidden links into your website even though they say they don't have it...

Just my thoughts..

i could be wrong, but you are thinking of other things .... a domain name, is just the name for your forum.... bandwith has to do with hosting your site, which is something diffrent ... in this case, forumotiong hosts the forum, so once you buy the domain name, say from domain.com, im quite sure you pay a one off fee only (paid yearly)

i vote no. i think the price is quite reasonable.

for a start, its all done for you, service is provided and not everyone knows about pointing name servers and so on. Secondly a lot of the cheap offers are limited to one year only, after which the price rises to around 9.99 for the reputable ones. Thirdly forumotion is very good in my opinion, compared to all the other free forums (trust me i have tried them all just about) and i am happy to support them.
