maybe it could be the type of e-mail they have

There are 3 solutions:
1) Get your members to check their junk folders or the junk email settings to see if it might have accidently deleted by the email provider.
2) You could always prove the accounts manually by going to "Admin Panel > Users & Groups > Users - Inactive Users".
3) You could turn off the verification email thing completely. Yes, this might make it slightly easier for spam bots to make accounts on your forum but if you have the captcha on, it won't make much difference.
