For example, if you have it enabled, if you are typing a post and you chose the color red for your font, as you type it will show it being typed in red.

If it is disabled, and you chose red, you will just see the coding

[color=red]your text here[/color]
but as you type it will show the font in the default font color. After you click Preview or Send, only then will you see the font in red.
