Editbaord Graphic art Contest #2

Hello everyone! First of all, welcome to the second Graphic contest on Editboard.

Here are the rules for the second Editboard Graph Contest.
Please read this one (The general rules of this section)


Nature of your creation : You will have to make a banner for the help forum. One banner for each season (spring, summer, autumn and winter)

Dimensions required : 500x100 px

Animation : Optional. You can choose to animate them or not. However, if you animate them, they can only be in gif format (.gif) to avoid slowing down people's connexion

Picture format : .JPG, .GIF or .PNG

Text : The Forum of the Forums



To give you an idea of a picture which have the required size, here's a sample picture :

Once you have finished your banners, you must submit them by PM on this account.

The deadline for submissions has been fixed on October 27th 2006 at 10:00 pm GMT - 4

If your banners fulfill the requirement, it will be held for the poll which will be set up for two weeks. Everyone will be invited to vote for their favourite avatar kit.

In the event of having more than 10 participants, they will be split in two groups. The winner of each group will face each other in a final poll.

Because the usernames may influence the votes, the authors's names will not be revealed until we know the contest winner.

As a reward, the winner's name and creations will be shown in the "Graph Contest Hall of Fame" topic which will regroup all contest winners.


You can post on this current topic ONLY if you have questions related to the contest rules.


Don't forget, the most important is having fun to create, even if you are a newbie who has only MS Paint as a picture edition software

Get to your pic edition softwares and make the contest account's mailbox explode!

just one thing,

You allow animate creation ...
I'm sorry, but your are a support forum, and you may should be accessible to all user ...
Animation overload the page ... and the banner is on all page ...
Is not all user who have adsl connection
Thame for a 512 or 256 Ko the loading of a 350 Ko or more animate banner take fews seconds ..
In display animate banner, you may loose user that won't appreciate to waite for the loading of page of the forum ...

Sorry for my intervention, but I think this board must be accessible to all, and you should keep a confort of navigation, much than the graphic part ...

Ok thanks for your intervention. Being (allow me to say) a pro in graphics artwork, I'll never take what you have to say lighlty.

But it's highly unlikely we ever use the logos that will be created. During the first contest, the objective was to make an avatar kitt, none of us ever used one of them althought the avatars were of a good quality. So it should be similar with the banners. And I personnaly don't think people will animate the banners.

the animation can be makeit in .gif to, not just in .swf/flash, avi .....
the ".gif" its a little big file (if you animate all elements with mutiple motions and if he have a big size) + can be supported by all browsers,
the only big problem its where you host the file/pic (what connection they have)

PS: you will not feel you have a Animated Banner

Ok, I just think that to bad to do graphic contest and not use the winner's creation ... but you're surely right, it's not the point, and that do animation on the board ...

But I think the trouble to change the banner to all first day of the seasons is Tristou ... in knowing him ... he will forget about this

It for long time may be use for the logo, and from soon it could be post in a message with BBcode :

About changing the banners, we will remind him

And I agree with LDA, flash creations take a long time to load (I have a 128k connexion), same for AVI files (when I go to youtube, I often have to wait 30 minutes to see a video of aapproximately 5 minutes )

But I think GIF files aren't that heavy, we could accept them (correct me if I'm wrong )

if they/we will make animated banner the ".gif" files its the best ideea

so its 3 posibility:
*make the banner totality in .gif
or
*make him in .swf/Flash then convert him in to .gif
or
*make him in PowerPoint=>PPpresentation; convert him in .swf/flash then in .gif or convert directly in .gif
depends by what programs you have/use

EDIT : this forum is called The Forum Of The Forums, so we think this text has to be on all 4 banners, but if you want to add the mention Editboard , it's okay

"The Forums of the forums" is the minimum text to include. If you want to add more text, you can, but I recommend that the logo must not be too loaded by details.

Anyway, about animation, even if I have the ressources to make animated gifs (with gimp), I will probably not animate my banners.

I talk about tbis board's navigation bar. Because we needed to add another icon, and the fact that I didn't make png copies of my bar, I decided to remake it, so there will be not even the slightiest problem between the new icon and the rest of the navbar. I'm a perfectionnist, lol. I needed to make png copies at the same time, it's because I have some project for my graphic kits.
