post count - Signature Options for Members Empty Signature Options for Members

Post by Guest May 18th 2012, 10:42 pm

I have a member on my board that does not use a signature, nor does he like to see the signatures of everyone else. As such, I think it would be great if a feature were added to where each member could choose whether or not they can see the signatures of others.

In other words, the visibility of signatures could be turned "on" or "off" for that particular user. All my other members enjoy seeing the signatures, as well as using them, so I would be hurting the majority in just disallowing signatures from the forum as a whole.

Yet, why should this one member have to put up with the sigs if they annoy him and make his forum experience more difficult and make him less likely to enjoy my site?

What do you think? I'd love to have your feedback.

Good idea! vBulliton has this, and it's a good option for members with slow computers or internet.

A way to limit the size of signatures would be welcome too.

Post by Guest May 19th 2012, 3:31 pm

^ Actualy, Velmarshal, there is a way to do that. I have phpbb2, like your profile says you do, and my signatures are limited to a set size. If anyone uses a sig that is too large, it's shrunk down to the size I want automatically on the board.

If you want to find out how, search the support forums--there are several threads about how to do so already. =)

Thank you for the feedback, everyone! I'm glad that you found this feature as useful as I do!

post count - Signature Options for Members Empty Opting to use signatures per post

Post by SophistoCat May 27th 2012, 8:52 pm

I'm so new to this so if this has been covered, I apologize. Is there a way to give members the option (ie. disable signature at the bottom of what they're replying to) if they want to use their signature for each post?
I posted some reviews and my signature showed up in each one, I'd rather turn it off for multiple posts like but can't see how. I have opted to not always display signature but so far that hasn't helped.
Thanks for any input!

Thank you for your votes, everyone! I hope we can get more votes!!

And great point, Jellydonut! I have a slow internet speed, so I know just how much it could help. I've had to turn off the visibility of other signatures on another forum before when I couldn't get that forum to load.

I think that's a reasonable enough feature to have. However, anyone that would actually be bothered by a signature or made to feel uncomfortable to the extent it made there forum experience difficult and UN-enjoyable obviously has other problems to contend with. Even if a feature existed where you could enable members to block signatures, I would not implement it. If they can't tolerate signatures its highly unlikely they will enjoy any other part of my forum, so I would bid them a "goodbye".

I can understand where you're coming from, runawayhorses. When I asked my member why he didn't like the signatures, he said that he found them rather distracting from the purpose of the forum.

To clarify, I run a role-play forum. A lot of the signatures on my board have nothing to do with role-play at all. IN fact, they generally lean towards anime and game characters.

He said that this distracts him in that when he's reading the posts in a role-play, he has a harder time visualizing the character he is reading about when seeing a different character right beneath it. He is a visual learner, so when it is easy for me to just ignore sigs and look over them, it is difficult for him to do.

That was his explanation, anyhow.

Oh Ok, I understand how it might distract him. But I have no idea how role-playing games work, I've never done that. Smile
