    Is it possible for the sub forum not to appear at the front? I mean I want to make a forum with just a link of it's sub-forum underneath.

    Try this:
    Administration Panel > Display > Homepage > Structure & Hierarchy
    Pick the medium one on the bottom row.

    Scroll down to the hierarchy section:
    Sub-level links on index: Yes
