Creating a Sitemap Empty Creating a Sitemap

Sitemaps help the bots crawls one's site. I want to generate a google sitemap, but there are some requirements that I need some help with.

Here is the page of instructions.
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/sitemap-generator.html

Note the list under "Before You Begin."

* You must be able to connect to and run scripts on your web server.
* Your web server must have Python 2.2 or later installed.
* You must know the command that launches Python. (Generally, this is python, but may vary by installation. For instance, if the web server has two versions of Python installed, the earlier version may be invoked by the command python and the later version may be invoked by the command python2.)
* You must know the directory path to your site. If your web server hosts one site, this may be a path such as var/www/html. If you have a virtual server that hosts multiple sites, this may be a path such as home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html.
* You must be able to upload files to your web server (for instance, using FTP).
* If you will be generating a list of URLs based on access logs, you must know the encoding used for those logs and the complete path to them.

I need help with the one I've highlighted. How do I upload files to my web server?

Thanks! Smile

this is not possible, We dont have access to FTP. The only site map that i have tried and tested is a text site map added to an HTML page. The tutorial is in FAQ.

I couldn't find anything in the FAQ section. scratch In which question does it appear?

Thanks.
That map doesn't update, so I'm not sure what is best. For the purpose of having all the posts from a forum, featured in say a google's search, which is best, that sitemap or just submitting the main page which has links to other forums?

the site map goes two levels down, which is a little deeper than a main index of your forum. i tend to update the site map once a month and submit the sitemap page link to the forum instead of the main link, as a result i am now on page three of listing s for my keywords, instead of page 15 with the main forum index link.

Hi. If you have problems with XML Sitemap use <a href="http://www.sitemapwriter.com/" title="sitemap generator"> Sitemap Writer Pro </a>
I tried different software for creating the sitemap for my website. This is the most effective one among 5-6 programs I tried.
This powerful webtool generates the sitemap for your website in just seconds. Mayor search engines <a href="http://www.sitemapwriter.com/notify.php">(Google, Yahoo, Ask, MSN, Moreover)</a> are able to index and read your sitemaps without any problems. Not expensive and easy to use!
