I'd love to be able to leave that message on every post that's been deleted.

Is there a way to delete a post but instead of having it vanish, leave a message saying "deleted by a mod or administrator"?

Do you mean if a staff member deletes the text in a message? If you delete the whole post, there is no post left. It is completely removed from the forum.

Exactly. So I don't want to delete it completely, I want everyone to know that particular post has been removed but I don't want that post to be gone. Just the content.
