CSS Stylesheet blank . . . . Empty CSS Stylesheet blank . . . .

Post by Bpoetic February 11th 2008, 3:11 pm

I have set up a test forum and been busy altering colors:
Background Color - Body line background color - Table Row Color 1 - Table Row Color 2 - and highlight Table Row Color 3 and separation.

Also, I've changed out the Logo on Homepage and replaced menu buttons and Forum/Forum New Icons.

I'm using Hitskin:Subsilver Red English.

I'm working in Advanced Mode - phpBB2 - Current Style (Have tried phpBB3 with no change)

It was suggested to me that I do these changes in *Colors* (Modify your colors) first, then go into my CSS Stylesheet and change perimeters there.

*** The CSS Stylesheet is empty! ( The Forum's Basic CSS is visible in Notepad Doc.)

CSS Stylesheet blank . . . . Missingcssve8.th

I did try highlighting it, thinking the font color might be white - no.

I don't know if it was empty before I made color and pic changes.

Can anyone advise me what my next step might be? I'd really like to incorporated my changes into *a* Stylesheet, so I can paste the info over into my *not-for-play* forum:-)

Thanks in advance, Bpoetic

Hi zinex . . .

Thanks for your timely answer. I know what the CSS Stylesheet should look like - and I don't have the *nerve* to try to alter the basic CSS in Notepad, lol! This indeavor is all brand new to me and at best - it would have taken a long time with the more categorized Stylesheet.

Do you think it's the skin I'm using? If so, perhaps I will need to find an alternate one that shows both forms of CSS.

Any other ideas before I pursue that later?

Thank you zinex! Bpoetic

Well zinex - I just tried what you've suggested - pasting from Notepad into the Stylesheet, and like magic:-) . . . the proper CSS Stylesheet format appeared!

Then . . . I hit save, and like magic . . . the page reloaded with nothing there again, lol!

What can I try next - if anything?

Thanks zinex, Bpoetic

the css does work, i edited a phpbb 2 theme to fit phpbb three here: www.p2ptest.forumotion.com but you have to know what things you need to hide/leave empty in the list of pictures etc for the css to take over.

If it is not saving, it will likely be a glitch and will fix itself in a day or so, i have had that happen.

Okay zinex . . .

I'll wait a couple days and see if all rights itself. The CSS Stylesheet is fine on my regular forum - so I know CSS works - just there's something wrong with *this* Stylesheet on my test forum. Because of that, I hesitate to switch to *this* skin on my regular forum.

Who should I report this too if it does not right itself in a few days?

Thanks for your information . . . Bpoetic

btw, did i understand that correctly that you are trying to move your theme from your testboard over to your main-forum? in this case, wouldn't it also work when you export your whole style in "Styles / Management" and import it in your other board then? blackeye

Okay . . . we're talking I goofed here - But I meant *submit*,for there isn't a Save option.

wasnt my intention at all. just wanted to eliminate all possible sources of error - and there is a "save" button a bit further down, and when you would have clicked that, exactly your described symptoms would have occured. Mr. Green

Wow, thanks Sunny_D!

Okay . . . you are going into completely unknown territory for me. I know what you're talking about - "Styles / Management" and import. I'm very unsure of that, not having seen a tutorial.

This is what I'm wanting to do:

I want to change the skin on my regular forum to Subsilver Red English.

I assume the forums will stay the same (crossed fingers)

Then I was gonna copy the CSS Stylesheet from the test forum and paste it into the Stylesheet of the regular forum.

Not getting the Stylesheet to *stick* is creating a bit of a problem with my preferred method of moving the info.

I'm stumped . . . .

confused

Wonder what this means: Main classes’s style sheet used on home page It is a link under the Stylesheet box. When I click on it, another window pops up and says: 404 - NOT FOUND

The strange link might be an old link to a formerly existing tutorial about css, thats at least what i assume when i read the target link...

anyway, after doing some quick research, i think in your case, you should not use the export/import feature. Read [here] if you want.

At this point, i want to tell you the basic idea how that CSS field actually works (as there is probably still some confusion). The CSS you find in the link "Forums Basic CSS" will be updated with the changes you made in "colors". that means everytime you change a color in the admin panel, this CSS file will be automatically updated. Now, all data that you put in the "Custom CSS" field, will overwrite the respective parts in the basic CSS. Thats also why that field was empty in the beginning although you made already color and picture changes. Note also that some images (the logo for example) wont be saved in the CSS at all - you will have to copy/paste the image links manually.

Hopefully you don't label me dim-witted now, but i had the impression this needs to be clarified Razz. Probably you also have a better idea of how to transfer the colors (via CSS copy/paste) and the pictures (manually copy/paste the image links). It's not a all-in-one solution but it works. And as zinex pointed out already, just wait some more time - maybe the submit button works normally again in some hours. Very Happy

Well, you've certainly clarified this whole thing for me, tonight. THANK YOU!

To know that the colors are changing in the basic CSS as I manually change them saves me a lot of work. That's great to know. I haven't really looked at how images show in CSS, so that will be a challenge, but I see what to do now.

No, I needed all the explanation you've given and I truly appreciate it. Glad you're around:-)

You can't use that theme since it's not in bbtheme format. You can however manually upload all the buttons, icons from that theme and add them to your forum.

you can also add the CSS sty;e sheet that will come with the download, but you will need to host the images the style sheet uses and paste the hosted codes in place of the hhalf codes that will be there just now.

Thanks, but I have no idea what to do with codes, css or anything related to it. I'm new to forums, html, css and all that type of things. Well I guess I will need to get used to the old look lol
