    Solved Moving domain

Post by Guest Thu Nov 13, 2014 10:27 am

    Hi,

I've got a question about moving a domain. I bought a .nl domain name from a friend who gave me a token to move the domain. I contacted the owner of the FM free domain, but they don't respond. I could move the free forum to another registrar, but the SEO will punish me for that I'm afraid. What should I do?

    Regards,

    Samantha.

PS: I can give you the link to the FM site only by PM if you don't mind.

Are you trying to use a domain name for a forum hosted by Forumotion?

Yes, I made a FM forum, but I want to be able to use it together with the new domain name I purchased from a friend. I've got a token for the transfer of the domain name. I looked up through WHOIS who's the registrar. I found their website and I contacted them using the contact form, but they don't respond.

Yeah, I've seen that tutorial, but in this case the last owner can only give away the token, so that when the new registrar enters the token, the .nl domain will automatically be dedicated to my FM website. I think it'll need some help of the registrar in this case. The current owner of the .nl website can only give the token, not much else. He's with another registrar. Evenmore, I contacted his registrar and they say my registrar should use the token to make me owner of the domain .nl domain name and arrange things like DNS and so on. It's very complex matter for me to explain. I hope I've made someone understand what the situation is.

I believe this needs to be discussed with the place you are getting the domain name.

I got a message from TransIP where the domain is currently registered and they said the following: "When you want to transfer a domain name then pass this code (token) to the new party. We don't need to do anything for the transfer itself.". So, I think someone at GoDaddy actually needs to enter this token I got somewhere into their system and hook the new domain name up to the existing FM forum of mine, right? And from there on I can spend the 1,600 credits to activate it and prolong it each year after.

    Have you tried contacting GoDaddy?

I did. I found another way to arrange things btw, but it's gonna cost me plenty of extras. I don't wanna do that. It'd be my last resort even, and I rather quit FM than having that solution thrown at my feet. I want you guys to seek a solution for me. I invested plenty of time, effort and money into this!

From my understand you've got this transfer token and you'll have to give it to another domain host such as Godaddy which will then put the domain name in your name, correct? Then you'd take the eternal domain name and pair it with your site, correct?

That's the only way, I don't know what FM could actually do as a solution, because you've gotten this domain name yourself and not through FM via the ACP.

That's not the way for people who bought a domain name. I'm not the owner, I bought it, I've got a token to do it. If you're saying your way is the only way, you may be forgetting this group of people.

Well I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying. You've bought the domain name and have got a token to transfer the domain name to another host right? Which the domain will be put into your name and you own the domain name, correct?

Solution: I registered with the same registrar where the domain was registered before. From there on, using the token I'd been given, I could pull the domain name to me. As the new registrant I can now proceed and follow: https://help.forumotion.com/t7021-cname-redirect-an-extern-domain-name-that-you-own-to-your-board .
