Solved 'Hashtag' feature working for users it shouldn't

    Post by brandon_g July 28th 2015, 2:44 pm

    Hello,

It is not often I create topics on here, because I can usually fix most issues myself. This one, however, has me stumped. The problem (which I noticed yesterday) is that, even though the hash tag (word tag) feature is set to 'groups' only, it seems to be working for regular members  as well. I spent awhile trying to troubleshoot, but nothing I did worked. As far I know, this feature is very simple and  only has 1 control setting in the ACP.

Here is a screenshot of the post that I noticed it on: http://prntscr.com/7xy8fm . Now it seems it was simply an accident of putting number 1 like #1 that triggered it. Fairly common mistake, usually we just edit it and fix  it. This one I didn't edit because the hashtag shouldn't have worked for this member at all, so the accident shouldnt matter.

On my forum the feature is enabled for staff and VIP Members and thats it for  now. I have checked and double  checked, there is no reason why the feature should work for this member, she is not part of any groups.

Screenshots of the setting in the ACP, are available upon request. The url to the forum is: http://www.broadcastingduo.forumotion.com

Why is this member able to use this feature? She is not part of any groups and there is no reason she should be able to. Why can members use the feature even though I have it set for them not to?

    Any  help would greatly appericated,

    -Brandon

    Hello,

I disabled Javascript for about a minute or so, checked and the issue still seems persist, I even turned off the hashtag feature, then turned it back on, in case the settings werent updated serverside or something, still nothing.

I mean its not a terribly big problem and it can be lived with, I just was  curious why, if it is set for groups only, why will it work for a regular member?

Would you like me to send you, by pm a test acocunt with temporary acp priviledges by pm?

Edit: I just went on my regular account, ran a small test tried to see if I could use the hashtag feature from it and I couldn't. Even though I put the symbol (#) it didn't work and didn't turn it into a hashtag. How wierd, maybe my troubleshooting worked afterall?

I will just monitor it a bit longer and get back to you. Smile

Double edit: It seems, if a staff  member edits a regular member's post, if the post has the symbol in it, when the staff edits the post, it will trigger the hashtag feature and turn it into a hashtag. I think I understand how it may have happened now, a staff member must have edited the post, either by accident or otherwise and trigger it.

Thanks for the help, solved Very Happy

Just to let you know I ran a test and found what i think the problem may have been.

If a member was to do the hashtag before you changed to the setting it would stay as a hashtag when you change it over !!

If you press edit on the post then just save the post with out making any edit it will then tell our servers that it's a fresh post and then remove the hashtag.

Not 100% sure why this would happen like that but that is how its working, I just think its how the system was made and not a bug of any kind.
