I mean graphic content and language level that is in movies that are rated 15+ in most European countries and the USA but are rated only 12+ in France.

Those include movies such as Secretary (2002) - rated 12+ in France while includes quite graphic content of the BDSM fetish. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - rated 12+ in France while includes several disturbing, quite lingering and intense, graphic and gory death scenes. And even as recent movies as The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) - rated 12+ in France while including 559 instances of the f-word (which is like 3,5 f-words per minute) and tens of instance of other strong profanity, and brief scenes of sex; clearly visible penises, breasts, vulvas, butts, thrusting, moaning, groaning etc. And the American Pie movies are rated U in France - suitable for all ages.

So - obviously France's movie rating board isn't as taboo about sex as most other countries. Or even about violence and profanity. But Forumotion staff aren't the movie certification board. Yet they presumably live in the same culture.

So, is it allowed to write as graphic & strong content as those movies get? Like, what IS this French host's meaning of "coarse and vulgar content prohibited" and "can't be pornographic" terms seeing that French movie certification system?

And is it considered differently in discussions between members as opposed to scenes written in fictional stories between characters in RPG threads?

It would be helpful if you put in your ToS what level content is allowed, stating it as the French movie certification.

Anything sexual can get your forum ban.  You need to understand one person could see something as pornographic when someone else would not.  A good rule of thumb is to not have anything sexual on your forum.

Our forums do follow French laws, but also follow the laws where you live.

Yeah, check your TOS. SLGray is right. Hope that helps. By the way, eventhough some countries provide their website users of a bit of comfort because of their country related regulations, bottom line is: the FM TOS applies. Hope that helps to get it all straightened up before you invest loads of effort into something you'll see back at the lawyers (not in any way trying to scare newcomers). Wink .

    Anything sexual? Literally anything?

Also, you didn't address the violence and language aspects?

I have seen forums ban because members were using sexual avatars, so yes.

I would say the same thing about vulgar language.  One person could be offended while another is not, so I would not take the chance.

+1 @Slgray : So either get rid of 'm vids & all or get a 24 hr. warning issued to get your site deleted. Right?

Okay, then. My RPG's playerbase is formed by mature adults so I suppose Forumotion isn't the best choice for us even though I'm not planning to run an 18+ content site but only a 15+. So, thanks for the clarifications!

You need to look at the Terms of Service of any forum host before creating a forum.

What I was trying to say is that one person's view/idea is different from another, so it is best not to take a chance with your forum.

    I know, I know.
I'm choosing JCink and purchasing their Premium service which they state allows even adult (18+) content and offer methods for the admin to protect minors from seeing that level content. Smile

I did check your ToS before getting started. It just isn't clear enough about the allowed content when it comes to RPG forums and it most certainly does not state that downright anything sexual can get your forum banned.

But still, kudos for not writing your ToS in horrifyingly complicated phrasing with buttloads of big words that borderline legal mambo jumbo and not writing large portions of it in ALL CAPS. Seeing to how lengthy ToS pages usually are, those types are a nightmare to comprehend and read through.

And thanks. But I doubt I'll have need to bring my RPG communities here since the Premium JCink allows freedom and my RPGs aren't actually mature content sites anyway. But I do like Forumotion for the most part so I certainly won't forget about you guys. Very Happy
