For the thank you button how come you can only thank one person and how come you cant thank more then one person

I believe it is related to the reputation system. You can use the reputation system in every post. Also if you are asking a question, and someone answer it, you will only want to thank that user that offered the answer.

Consider the "thanks button" sort of as a way to mark the "best answer" of a topic. Most question related sites, like Stack Overflow for example, use these types of buttons so the topic starter can mark the post that helped them the most. If you could thank every post in a topic, then the button would lose it's uniqueness ; it'd be the same as the reputation system, albeit without a down vote. ( "no thanks" ? )
