Quick quote change Empty Quick quote change

Post by Guest December 10th 2016, 7:49 pm

    Hello,

I would like a modification of the quick quote script (from this tutorial) so that if nothing is selected, the quote button works exactly as usual (i.e: quoting all the text and going to full reply), and if any text is selected, it quotes the selection to quick reply.

I am aware I could achieve this by having two different buttons for quote and quick-quote, but I'd prefer it to be as I've explained to make it simpler, especially for new users who might not get what the different buttons are for.

Could anyone help me with this, please?

Just so you know, I tried to get a answer and did not get one as of yet.

If you use the quick quote to quote whole posts you can run into trouble. Quoting a quote does not work and breaks the quotings code, so that needs to be fixed too then.

Hi, this might be to your liking: http://avacweb.forumotion.co.uk/t2579-ajax-quote-in-quick-reply

That tutorial will mean that your quote button uses the quick reply to either quote a full post, or as you say if the user has selected text, quote the selected text.

    Hope that helps!

Hello @LGforum , thank you for the suggestion, but this does not add the username and(/or) tagging.
If that is something they wish to have.

Thank you both for answering. Smile

Mmm, I have WYSIWYG mode on by default, does that mean your solution wouldn't work for me, @LGForum?

So I tried and it worked even in WYSIWYG mode, it's a shame that usernames are not showing as @Meesleepbeest pointed out.
