    Solved Moderators permissions

Post by Jane Doe March 9th 2018, 1:13 am

    Technical Details

    Forum version : #ModernBB
    Position : Founder
    Concerned browser(s) : Mozilla Firefox
Who the problem concerns : A few members
When the problem appeared : Today
    Forum link : http://ks2016.forumactif.fr/

    Description of problem

I've recently created a moderators group to help out when the forum gets busy, and part of the duties I intended for them is to add newbies to a group I created when I first created the forum called 'introduced', to grant them access to the private parts of the forum.

So far I've made one person a moderator, but he isn't able to add people to this other group. I've been all over the admin panel trying to find out how I can modify it so that he is able to do this (in addition to the normal mod duties of moving threads into the right place and editing posts if necessary).

If at all possible, could you tell me how this is done? I must have missed something.

    Thanks,
    Jane

Is this member the group's moderator?

I just used the admin panel to upgrade him to moderator of all subforums, I assumed that the change would happen automatically.

There are basically four groups of people on my forum:

Admins - Me and a handful of others,
Moderators - Just one member so far, I want around 5
Introduced - People who have posted and introduction and have therefore been added to the 'introduced' group
Other - People who signed up but haven't been added to introduced yet

How do I make sure that he is the moderator of the group 'introduced'? I wasn't aware I could do that.

No, I mean the group itself.

I am listed as the moderator for all groups, but other admins have no problem adding people to introduced despite also being not listed as group moderators. This problem has only occurred for the moderator rank since I have decided to use it.

The administrator group or whatever you call it does not have to be the group moderator to add or remove members from groups.

That's great, thank you. Will I be able to add more than one person to the list of group moderator? I ask because I intend to promote more people to moderator and therefore they will be sharing the responsibilities.

No.  Only one moderator per group.

I guess I could get around this restriction by creating 'introduced2', 'introduced3' etc for each person I promote, and then configure each group to the same specifications as the original introduced. Thanks very much for your help on this, problem solved Smile

I don't know if you have anything to do with the people who created the forum software and stuff, but if you know those people, you could always suggest to them a small modification to allow multiple mods for a group, it would make it simpler for people with setups similar to mine. Other than this small issue I've been very happy with the service Smile
