How about a Longer Signature?

What's wrong with long sigs?

Yes i think its a good idea.
As some members only use like blinkis in thier signatures and can only really put 2/3 in would be better to be able to have more or admin to choose a limit?

I don't really like it. The siggies are long enough for me and my forum's members.

I'm surprised nobody closed this yet because I suggested this a while back and with my explanations and arguments for it, I didn't get far...at all. I don't want to get into all of that again, but just to quickly summarize my thoughts:

More characters does not mean a smaller signature
-1 gif image takes up more memory than however many characters of text we have
-1 large file (space it takes on your screen) could be bigger than 5 gifs

So basically, the character limit just stops people unnecessarily and if admins want to allow more characters, I don't see why not. It's the job of the site's mods and admins to control the signature sizes to whatever they want and I don't think the current limit is helping anyone.

I think that we need more characters bec I use alot of small codes and they willk not all fit on my sig.

i think the admin should be able to set the length.

also if u have problems loading pages to slow then maybe you should get a better connection.. i have fios and i can load every page in 1 sec and that includes my clan site that every member has a gif file of about 1meg

i disagree. users already create extremely big siggies, just think how ugly and disproportioned the forum would look if this would become real!

why would codes be necessary? use something simple, no flash, just an image , animated if necessary

i have a good connection, but as an administrator i must think anout the users with a poorer connection. if users were to have complicated codes and all sorts of widgets as siggies, we will lose the ones with poorer connections

If you want to put a list of anything, such as users, then using a drop-down menu would be better. You're complaining about sigs being big, but using this coding will make the sig much much smaller, but yet you still don't want to support more characters to use these codings.

i still won't support this because most people will not use it with your type of codings, but with flash files and whatever else might emerge in their minds.

and yes, i did not read your answer, i just answered to the first post which is exposing the reason of the subject, the suggestion. i reacted to the suggestion, not your answer, because in the suggestion topic the main reason of posting is to agree or disagree with the suggestions themselves.

I need it because i like to put Text links to important topics in it, and they get kinda long

it's enough. Do you think if they set it to 5000 minimum do you think they can even write that long? and siggies are really more of the motto. So what can you write there?

~annoying
~forum, will be too hard to read since everyone is using long sig
~laggy, due to a lot of jpg, gif will shown
~and will rate your forum into "poor" standard

As I said, you can put multiple gifs now, so it's not stopping the people now anyways. If people wanted to put gifs, they could still lag the forum with 500 characters and that's something the admins and mods need to take into their own hands.

Like I said, you can have a long sig with just 1 picture, so are you going to limit the characters allowed to under 20? Once again, you can have quite a few gifs as it is already, so if you're concerned about it, get admins and mods to do their job and set the limit for your own forum. Not everyone abuses the signiture lengths and we shouldn't be punished for it.

Yo, that's why they should make it as an option, ya know to turn on and off...and allow the Admins to adjust the settings as they please..

Or 1 drop-down menu with at most 5 options and at most 1 picture.

If this is too long for you, then there's nothing I can say that'll change your mind. My coding would save space because I'm listing all my option in that 1 little menu, but if I didn't do so I would have to write them out in 5 lines, which would make my sig even longer. So the current character restriction is making my signature longer and not shorter.

How many characters is that for my image? As you can see, it's not a big image at all being a 150 x 400 image, but that takes up most of my sig already and I cant do much afterwards. I'm getting restricted for things that don't even really take up much room.

I think that we should higher the limit to at least 1200...I have a graphics site and 1 siggy and 2 blinkies just arent enough to add to your sig. I think at 1200 would be perfect for anyone.

FORGOT TO ADD...or at least make it an option for the admin to change it to what they want it at:D

A signature is this little strip of text or picture that goes on the bottom of your post. This suggestion would just be refused.
