Getting separate bars for Categories, & Multiple Calendars?

Hi, the setup seems to be right in Admin, but I thought if you had 2 categories, with forums in them, you would see 2 separate boxes, each with the bar at the top...?

AND--I wanted a place for volunteers of different local groups to come together (all environmental groups--nice to share info between them)--but they would each need separate calendars.

I don't see an option to add a calendar for each category--?
Can I get the code for a calendar and add it as an HTML module?

To separate categories go to admin panel=>General=>Homepage=>Hierarchy and look for this option "Split categories on index :" and choose "Medium".
