Unbanning member Empty Unbanning member

Post by DSDU June 21st 2008, 3:53 pm

I have a member called testuser that I use to try things out in my forum from a member's point of view. I checked what happened if I ticked NO for Member Active then I checked what happened if I ticked BANNED. I then deleted testuser.

Now I want to reinstate testuser but after 'succesfully' unbanning the email address, I still get the 'You are banned from this forum' message when I try and register.

Anyone got any ideas how I can get testuser back?

But I want to know how to reinstate for future reference Wink Of course I can easily use a different name for my testuser but I will not have learnt anything...

To be honest I find it quite strange cos after reading other posts, I was under the impression to make a ban work you should NOT delete them as they can then return. As you then deleted testuser you should have been able to reinstate them.

Sorry can't think of any reason why you should not be able to re-register, as you have said you have unbanned the email, I assume you didn't ban the IP cos you would not be able to log on at all.

Yeah, it's a bit weird. I'm hoping it a timing thing and that when I try again in the morning, all will be well. That's the beauty of computers, they are so random!

Every time I try to reregister using that name and the email address I originally had, it keeps coming up as banned. I then go in to ban control and make sure the email address is unbanned but the same thing happens again!!

Please can someone tell me how to UNban someone?

To your belief, this is not possible, if you have permenantly deleted the account. IF the user still exists (having it's own profile) it's possible to unban.

It sounds like when you have banned testuser, you have also banned the ip it was using,,, yours,, click users and groups, then click the ban control, now remove the ip in the ip ban section of it.

There's no ip in the ip section...It must be something to do with banning then deleting.

Ok now I really have a problem! I can't get into the forum at all. I can't get the login page because it says I'm banned!!! This is ridiculous!

I tried to register a new tester but must've accidentally used the banned email address so it said I was banned. So then I thought, no problem, I'll just log in as admin or myself (a separate acct) but I couldn't even get the login page. I thought, Oh no! It's banned me completely. I tried on another computer (same network) but still couldn't get in Sad Fortunately, my co-admin was able to unban the ip. Why on earth did it do that automatically???
