A customized domain adress wouldn't have the ".forumotion" etc... name behind your forum name. For example: www.MyCustomDomain.com instead of MyForum.forumotion.com.

your old forum address will still exist and would redirect all users directly to your custom domain. 1600 points are required per year to buy a custom domain name. For the first time, if your forum is still active after one year, you will get the second year for free. Smile

Thanks so much for that, that really helps.
Does that mean it will appear higher up in the google search engine?

If you want to try getting a higher rating you need a good meta file on the main html page. I'm not sure though if you can edit the html with Forumotion unless you can access the html. You would need to add "meta" tags that make it easier for bots to find and rate your site. The pertinent ones to add would be...
Code:

<meta name="RATING" content="General">
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="index,follow">
<meta name="REVISIT-AFTER" content="30days">
Additional meta tags will give a description of your site and provide keywords that a google/yahoo/whatever search can help people find. You generallly add words that give an idea what the content of your site is.

Here's help for your questions:

Credits: Yes, credits are required. 1600 credits are required.
Bots: Webcrawlers searching the web to add your forum/website to their search engine.

OK what if I already own my domain name and want to use it, instead of buying a new one? How do I configure that?
I dont want it redirected, just instead of forumnotion.com etc, it's just my personal URL that I already own? Cheers
