Copyrights and Ads
I just need a few answer to whether they allow this or not.
1st.
Can your website forum have an ADs? Like, an advertising website, not porno of course. One of those google ads, they pay you like $1.50 a month if you have like 100 members or so. Can you have those on you forum? Im just wondering, would be nice to make a few bucks... lol.
And can you make your own advertising section? Like a free advertising section? Bunch of random people always advertise on topics, which make it off-topic board, so I wondering if I can do an advertising section. =D
So they can spam there instead of my own forums.
2nd.
Im planning on making an art gallery forum, etc. And me and my friends drew some sweet pictures. Only problem is, is it copyrighted?! We sorta took a Manga book, starting to draw random characters and trace them. Is that copyrighted when you trace them? But on Deivant Art, they don't care, you trace them over, submmited it, and you get copyright for your pictures. Is that legal?
=D
So, am just wondering, if you draw your own picture that you trace, is that copyrighted?

Re: Copyrights and Ads
I would think tracing and then reproducing as your own art is breach of copyright. Being an artist married to another artist, I would consider this theft.
But that is just my opinion not a legal fact, someone else can tell you that.
But it is at very bad form if not illegal.
I can only speak for myself, but if I found someone doing that with any of our paintings or artwork I would certainly take legal action.

Re: Copyrights and Ads
It is definitely illegal and violation of copyright. You are copying an original, copyrighted image, using someone else's work.
You say "draw your own picture" ... which you are not doing. Even drawing a picture of something like that free hand is still illegal.

Re: Copyrights and Ads
well im not consider... completely retrace and recopy.
You know, like a character, you just copy the character, but in
another style. Not like actual picture, but draw the character itself.
Example: Character is picking up a flower
But I wanna draw this: Character is driving a car.
(Which there is not copying, but just using the character)
Is that still copyrighted?
Like a fan art.
And will someone read the AD Question plz? lol

Re: Copyrights and Ads
The images of all characters are copyrighted - you cannot use them at all, in any form.
I have no idea about the ads question - most people I know want to get RID of them - not clutter up a forum WITH them.

Re: Copyrights and Ads
Lol, but thats sorta funny though.
I've seen people draw manga character like a billion time.
There probably like a billion manga character.
Even Caihlem has an avatar...
of Kira from Deathnote (I think)
I dont think he has copyright for that?
So whats the point? lol.
But no matter if it copyrighted or not...
I can get permission from Authors that made Naruto,Bleach, etc.
I got my ways.

Re: Copyrights and Ads
Redrawing (while not copying) is not against the law, as long as these characters are not used for bigger projects.
Commercial use, for example, is illegal, though throwing in some drawings by you on a gallery is allowed.
You're not breaking any copyright laws, as the character himself has been protected by copyright, but a few years ago some U.S court room determined that redrawing for private use (which would also apply to a forum, as long as your main goal is not to earn money on the forum) was allowed.
Now, for your first question;
Again you are not breaking any rules (i wonder why you could think that).
People advertise for their own websites (which would be owned entirely by them, usually) and they are the copyright owners of these.
So, if they themselves post these, then you have not broken any rules.
Google Ads aswell, are placed by Google Corporation®, who got these advertisements from the copyright owners, under a license agreement, allowing Google Corporation® to place these ads, on websites.
So, none of your ideas are illegal.

Re: Copyrights and Ads
Thank you for making sense. =D
And yes, lol, I know that will be totally illegal if you use an author's character in a commercial. lol.
And no, my main part is not making money with it. But they can donate if they want to, so I don't think that is money profit. That money will probably just go straight into the forum.
And am just making a art gallery for the picture.
=)
