GIF avatar not moving.

Are we allowed to post gif animations to be our avatar? or not? Because I tried to upload mine but when I saw it... it's not moving.

Yes you are aloud to upload GIF avatars. Just re-check it's a GIF file and make sure isn't too big or it probably won't work

I have changed my avatar from JPG to GIF. My avatar should be moving because I have it as a GIF file. you do the same and when it's displayed it will move

Don't feel bad - mine doesn't either, although it's animated at another forum I have on another software:) Here either, apparently!

your avatar can be .GIF but only have one layre, i aint a huge fan of .GIF i prefer .PNG (Portable Network Graphics) there aren't as big as .GIF me and my freind where playing with Flash MX the whole day about 14 hours and we created a stupid signature of stick man killing each other so it was like 30 min short animation after we saved it we were shoke we placed so much into to it that it ended up 700.45 MB so we deleted it ^_^

i am explaining that it could be .GIF format pic and only have one layer.... i can save not animated as .GIF....and say its animated cause it's .GIF

When a gif is animated on another forum and on someones system, yet doesn't work as animated here ...

no idea i see two Animated avatars right here and they work... i never faced this problem before i will try to make a .GIF file and test it out... aldo it should work... ahaaaa i am getting confused

Yeah - my avatar is animated. It works as such on another forum of mine (not forumotion) and viewing on my system. It does not work either here or on my forumotion forum.

hmm true i just vied your Avatar Source i don't see the Animation two, don't get it some GIF Avatars work and some don't? No idea...

Weight - you can have gifs as your avatars, but if it's too heavy, the system won't cope and your gif will be just as good as a jpg or png

Explain "too heavy" please. It's only a 3kb gif image and is smaller than the others posted in the thread. The animation is very basic - the toe taps and the horn goes side to side. It works everywhere but forumotion.

Maybe you should try re-reading my last. I said the gif is only 3 kb and is smaller than either yours or the other animated gifs in this thread. I have tried all methods of linking the file.

upload the gif and put any like to it here to try it

Here it is from the exact same link I used in my profile. In a message its anuimated, otherwise ... NOT.

Did you actually read and of the preceeding posts? I already said the file soze is 3kb. The max allowed is 64. Not even close.

If you uploaded it from your computer don't. Get the url of the image and use it, 3kb sounds bit too small for an animated Avatar to me, so make sure you are using the right things here.

Edit: Ahh... use the link to off-site avatar, don't upload it.

Edit(2):If all else fails, look up a different Avatar. I recommend Deviantart you search your favorite show and you will get about 100,000 results. Look in their animated category for Animations.

Another one who doesn't read the threads. I tried all ways to get the gif on my profile - uploaded and linked. Neither works, yet the SAME link used in my profile to display it in the Message works. gee .... isn't THAT interesting?

And why exactly would I want a different avatar. I use that same one everywhere I join for a reason - it is what I am. I'm not interested in any anime crap or video game avatars:)

Frustrated are we? Well, tell you the truth, I dunno, and aparrently nobody else does either so don't get all snappy at us. You can ask a Techie or Admin if you want...

Try Uploading it to servImg and using the Image URL they give you, maybe that wil help...

Edit: Dude I tried it and the URL has been deleted! Whomever created/posted it or a moderator of the place where he/her uploaded it deleted the image from where it was. You say you have other profiles with it right? Try the url you get when selecting Properties after a right-click on your Profile pics. If you uploaded insted of linking URL it might be saved.

What are you talking about? The URL where that image is stored is my personal domain. It is not deleted. I am the admin at the other forums it's on.

Saurus, your avatar dimensions cannot exceed 150 pixels in width. Your original image is 156px, thus, the image in your profile has been resized automatically to 150px. If this happens, an animated gif might loose all it's frames and transparency, what would also explain the low filesize of 3kb.

"Link to off-site avatar" should work though...

@punk: Try to reduce the avatar dimensions to 150x200 pixels or use a smaller image. Animated gifs in general are working on your forums.
