Smileys on a dark skin...

How can I fix it so that it's all black in the background...

Well, you have to edit the smilie images to have a transparent background to fit your background. Maybe someone can help you in the graphic requests forum.

oh snap....I have a ton of smiley's too. Gonna be a ton of work...

the other smiley frame (the one that comes up when you quote or click "post reply") is fine. it's only the one in the quick reply box. there has to be an easier way to fix it.

It's possibly a background color then. If your forum is phpBB version 3, try to add this code to your CSS stylesheet (Display / Colors / CSS) :
